This "levolution"(stupid word I'd say btw) stuff sounds interesting but they'll have to do a pretty good job not to make it feel repetitive, otherwise people would exactly know what spot on the road to avoid or which pillar not to crouch behind as it can cause the whole ceiling to collapse when destroyed.

Blaze it motherfucka'
Say what you want but this looks fucking insane.
now if only they could make a good game with it

you know within a month there's going to be some "mlg pro" method that a bunch of dinks will constantly follow, running straight to specific traps or major chokepoint creators to trigger to their advantage. I'm kind of hoping things like the pillar in the parking garage doesn't immediately collapse, rather it sets a trap. It'd be cool if it starts to dip in and crack the road a bunch so it's still visually noticeable, so falling into it is your fault for not paying attention to the cues

BF3 was a good game (MP wise); it didn't feel like a true BF game, but it was still a good game.
As someone who hates inconsistencies with a passion, I absolutely love that the wind effects water, foliage, clouds, and debris.
I wish they'd stop showing footage of their editor, that looks like a standard editor for a modern engine, and claiming that it's "Too advanced for modders"
Ontopic, It looks like it'll be pretty good, looking forward to watching a few rounds on that city map.

There's more to a modern engine pipeline than the user interface.
I am not impressed when all they are showing is dull battlefield 4 footage.

I'm not sure what it'd take to impress you at this point

There's so much fog, blur and post-processing, I wouldn't notice any of the other features while playing.
I'd love to see a sim made with this in a similar vein to ARMA
Was gonna give BF4 a miss but not sure I will now
Seems pretty neat. I guess I'll buy BF4 when it will be for like 15 bucks.

so? im not stupid im capable of picking up a new engine and i'm not nearly as smart as some modders out there. their excuse is bullshit.

And this is why SweetFX and SweetFX Preset Database exists. Unfortunately you still can't do anything about the fog, lensflares, and that type of stuff but it still makes Battlefield 3 look (and play) much better, and I'm sure there will be presets for BF4 when that comes out too.

Wasn't their excuse mainly that it used way too much third party software and you'd have to pay thousands in royalties to even use it legally?
Wasn't their excuse mainly that it used way too much third party software and you'd have to pay thousands in royalties to even use it legally?
i dont remember it being about third party software, just that they had a lot of programs that they used. if that is what theyre doing then that's got to be a really asinine pipeline. the less programs you have to purchase and use on a daily basis the better.
The networked water simulation stuff is pretty damn awesome, and the engine looks great, but games before, like Crysis 1, have had a lot of that nature stuff like explosive shockwaves and wind effecting the trees and stuff.
I want to be able to drop a large bomb in water and have the waves generated from it get so large that they knock other player's boats upside down.
now if only they could make a good game with it
i agree. imagine if arma 3 had as much manpower and money behind its engine as this one does
I'm waiting for Beta and hoping that BF4 will be more BF2-like than BF3. BF2 is THE best Battlefield game so far for me personally, because it involves strategy and tactics, rather than focusing on killing people(BF3). BF3 is a fun game, and I enjoy playing it, but it still isn't that Battlefield I would like to see, when you had to think about every move you do with your squad, because if you'll do something wrong, your whole plan might be ruined(talking about BF2).
But the graphics are fucking epic.

Frostbite is not nicely packaged up like Unreal or CryEngine. It takes about 30 different programs to make a map. On top of that, there's a shit load of licensed middleware that they can't release to the public (either because the licenser dictates that, or because of the costs associated with it).
Here's a nice post on Reddit from a DICE guy that explains it in more detail:
http://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield3/comments/1b5mqo/why_battlefield_3_4_have_no_mod_tools_according/
Everything else looks like a slightly more detailed BF3, but the little things like destruction look absolutely incredible and 100% less robotic and fake than they did in BF3. It's looking pretty good.
That said, I'm still sick of military shooters, so I'm going to pass.
Oh hey, I still have my doubts but that theme at the end there actually sounded like the Battlefield theme and not electronic hersheys squirts.
Wow I can't take the new main theme music seriously at all when it has basically devolved into shitting noises

that's just bad design. i remember reading that now and i still do not understand why anyone would make an engine that requires that much work to make a single map. if they invested the time into making a nice engine that doesn't require a fuckload of programs then their development time would certainly be much better spent.
This game need mod tools.
After watching this video I can't stop thinking of three things
1. all of that crap (MP features-wise) could be added in updates for bf3, hell, community has been constantly asking for them, but lolno, even fixing the TV missile randomly fucking your helo up took them a year and ~3 patches
2. this is going to lag SO MUCH on my gtx fucking 580, and no it's not an old card, mimimimi, it's just who needs optimization in 2013, let's cramp features into our engine for marketing purposes (with setting on low for consoles), what, "It's ~next gen~ ofcourse it's going to lag on your non-GTX Titan GPU! Silly you!"
3. [sp]press X to cut leg[/sp]
