Theory of Knowledge Class!! Here we goooooo
Before it can be determined if a machine can know, it must first be known how one defines knowing in talking about machines, whether it be the storage of information in the form of binary data on a device that stores data or if a machine can utilize the 4 ways of knowing: perception, language, reason, and emotion. A machine can reason by using programmed information to make decisions based off past events; it can perceive by using combinations of pixels from some video receiving device that correspond to known combinations that represent an object, and it can use language to portray information (provided that the language in question is programmed into the machine). It is obvious that a machine cannot feel emotion because it has no emotion center; however it is possible to program specific emotions that the machine must respond with, giving it a personality.
GO!
While this would be an interesting discussion, I believe you have put it in the wrong section.
Ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
No.
My machine knows very well. When it acts up it knows when I'm not ready to put up with it's shit and sets itself straight.
Sure it can. We already have simulations of brains running on supercomputers that are smarter than cats. It's not too long until we match/exceed human intelligence.

Not really, it'll take a long time I'd imagine. And one thing they will never have is non-linear thinking

right? i think? yes
One day in the future, machines will be able to know even better humans... Bibically speaking :q:
A machine couldn't have a personality, since it'd have to be coded.
It's not really a personality if it's all pre-determined.

when you get down to it the human mind isn't much more than a very advanced and complicated biological computer
As in be conscious? No.
As in be conscious? No.
why?
why?
Think about it, it's programmed, as of right now it can't.

we're not talking about right now, we're talking about the future
I love my TOK class I have, It's just like facepunch
You jump into a thread (A topic of knowledge or just some topic in general)
Conversation happens, intelligent statments back and fourth
Then there is that little spark
Then it's all out war
Yes a machine can know.
I still don't think so.
A machine can know, but it can't think.
Philosophical much?
