Activision boss Bobby Kotick says the company's flop music game DJ Hero contributed to the company taking one-time star franchise Guitar Hero off the market. Speaking to business magazine Forbes he admitted that DJ Hero had been a bad idea, and that the focus his company put on the new game pulled valuable care and attention away from Guitar Hero. He said that Guitar Hero had been one of the essential fantasies of video games...to unleash your inner rock star. But on DJ Hero he said, "We should have said, 'Well, how many people really want to unleash their inner DJ?'...It turns out it's a very small market." He added, "These are the hardest failures, when you put your heart and soul into it and you deliver an extraordinarily well received game, and nobody shows up to buy it. So that's what happened with DJ Hero. At the same time we were so excited about going down this new direction with DJ Hero, I think we abandoned a bit of the innovation that was required in the Guitar Hero franchise. And so it was the double whammy of DJ Hero was unsuccessful, and then Guitar Hero became unsuccessful because it didn't have any nourishment and care." He added, "They didn't want what we gave them. We pushed [DJ Hero] down their throats." Kotick said that Activision is now rebooting the Guitar Hero franchise.
looks like they are using some gypsy magick to ressurect old cash cows http://games.ign.com/articles/118/1182913p1.html
Oh dear god NO not another one at least he's admitting DJ Hero failed, what a piece of shit .
He added, "They didn't want what we gave them. We pushed [DJ Hero] down their throats."
HOLY SHIT HE'S REALISING ...
Kotick said that Activision is now rebooting the Guitar Hero franchise."
...GOD FUCK SO CLOSE DAMNIT
Maybe people didn't want to buy the same game with different tracks 14 times a year.
Time for more franchise-milking.
Activision now has a complete barn of fat diseased cows chained down in the field, ready to be drained for cash
Kotick just realized that he only has two franchises to live on and wants to reanimate the good ol' days.
lol the dj killed the rockstar
Time for more franchise-milking.
Your avatar is an accurate depiction of how Activision remakes franchises.
But on DJ Hero he said, "We should have said, 'Well, how many people really want to unleash their inner DJ?'...It turns out it's a very small market."
Every single song on there was a boring mashup song. The track listing sucked ass.
Your avatar is an accurate depiction of how Activision remakes franchises.
If only my avatar had "Activision" written in front of the eyes, and then it was vomiting copies of Guitar Hero games. That would be hilarious.
Every single song on there was a boring mashup song. The track listing sucked ass.
Shout vs pjanoo was good and so was Radio Gaga vs all of me. [editline]21st July 2011[/editline] Still thats only like 2 songs...
Guitar Hero was dead to me before DJ Hero because of all the milking. I think the milking plus Rock Band being a better game killed it.
Guitar hero died after guitar hero legands of rock. With world tour, it was good and all with new instruments, but the songs got more and more boring, Guitar hero 5 was just plain terrible, They were just milking it with band hero and then they started going back to the rock franchise with 'warriors of rock' and though they could get the same result.
Wrong. Guitar Hero killed DJ Hero.
Guess our game failed, only one more option REBOOT REBOOT REBOOT franchises aren't fucking computers, rebooting won't solve any issue that might be going on
People are throwing around word 'reboot' too much these days.
Once again, I will ignore another GH release for my old Rock Band 1.
Wrong. Guitar Hero killed DJ Hero.
Wrong. Activision killed both of them
Dj hero is actually a really fun game. You should give it a try.
I want Guitar Hero back... but not by this guy, sorry.
DJ Hero was actually a fun game tbh
This is so much fun to play. It bothers me how much people hate Dj hero when they haven't even played it.
Meh, I've always been a huge fan of Guitar Hero, personally I'm glad that it's getting a reboot - though I hope to god they put more Heavy/Thrash metal in there. Warriors of Rock actually had my favorite setlist, due to so many good bands, I just wish that'd they changed the game a little from 5... it's like a NFL game, except they add even less, only different songs. It's not worth 60 whole bucks. . .
rock band will always be superior
thats why i like rockband because they release DLC instead of new games every couple months. also DJ hero was pretty fun but it got old after awhile
thats why i like rockband because they release DLC instead of new games every couple months. also DJ hero was pretty fun but it got old after awhile
guitar hero's idea of a "megapack" of dlc is like 12 songs lol for an entire month
Rockband was always way better.
GH is a joke, all the games are the same, with a different set of songs.
What is the difference between Rock Band and Guitar Hero? They both look equally unappealing and boring to me.
"We're rebooting the franchise" - Kotick Translation: "The series died - we're making another game for it anyway" You don't 'reboot' games. At least not stand-alone games like Guitar Hero. 'Rebooting' it would mean just making another game in the series. As in, a sequel. As in, what they've been doing. It's like 'rebooting' Zelda or Mario: each game is stand-alone anyway. You reboot actual series of things - games, movies, books, etc. - not ones where every part stands on its own. You could reboot Harry Potter, or a comic book series, or a movie series like Spiderman or Star Wars, or actual series of games like Mass Effect. He can't even use 'remake', as that would imply doing the same story and setting for one of those stand-alone games. Guitar Hero doesn't really have a story. You could remake Majora's Mask. You could remake the first Halo or even one of those Call of Duty games (the Modern Warfare ones, not the "let's play WW2 again and again and again" ones). Am I making sense here? I never was good with words. /word use rant
