I recently finished building my PC and and plugged it in, on boot it will beep 4 times, restart and repeat

It might be because that motherboard only supports ivy bridge after a bios update

If this is the case then you can either use someone else's sandy bridges temporarily or contact MSI and ask them to flash it for you or return it

oooh okay, is there any way to downgrade it to take the CPU i'm using because i really don't want to have to re-buy it
Looking online it says the 4 beeps should be something to do with the RAM

This is what it says about MSI Motherboards
4 beeps - Timer not operational - bad motherboard
He means update the motherboards firmware and that might make it accept your CPU
As for that last bit, bad motherboard... make sure everythings plugged in right. If it is, I guess motherboards dead out of box
