Redeemable gift points with a value of nearly $1,225 were then stolen. A company spokesperson didn't rule out the possibility the attack was related to the recent PSN attack, but downplayed such a likelihood because the method of intrusion differed from that of the PSN hack. So-net warned users on Thursday, telling them an intruder tried 10,000 times to access the point service that grants customers reward points that can then be exchanged for Sony products and online currency. The company believed the hacker entered valid usernames and then applied an automated program that tried to guess the correct login match until it found the right one. As a result, points from 128 user accounts were redeemed without authorization. Another 73 accounts were accessed but the point were not redeemed. Also, 90 So-net e-mail accounts were compromised. There is no evidence that the attacker saw personal information. The breach was discovered on May 18, following customer complaints, with the intrusions occurring on May 16 and 17. The redemption service was then suspended.
people hate sony alot apparently
Surely you can't be serious.
Hahahaha oh wow. Sony is soooooooo fucked.
This is getting silly. Stop it.
Put a captcha on the login next time.
I'm guessing someone managed to steal a load of info on Sony's security set-up and hand it out :v:
Surely you can't be serious.
I am serious, and don't call me Shirley.
This is a basic dictionary attack on the login, nothing was hacked but weak passwords. Not really noteworthy.
Whoever is hacking Sony. Isn't letting them get back up.
This is really getting out of hand.
Airplane.
Explains why he's on a plane then.
In my book, brute forcing isn't hacking.
Hahahaha oh wow. Sony is soooooooo fucked.
Sony is beyond fucked, there have been what, like 5 intrusions related to them? 2 or 3 of them were massive.
In the future, when they release a new edition of the Merriam-Webster's Dictionary, the term "ass-rape" will have a picture of Sony's logo directly next to it. :colbert:
honestly
[...] an intruder tried 10,000 times [...] the hacker entered valid usernames and then applied an automated program that tried to guess the correct login match until it found the right one.
Come on. Seriously?
sony is done for how many times have they been hacked just this month?
It wasn't Sony that was hacked, nor was it any company. It was user accounts who had weak passwords.
It wasn't Sony that was hacked, nor was it any company. It was user accounts who had weak passwords.
that werent properly protected by sony
In other news, So-net learns of incredible new technology called "captcha"
Come on. Seriously?
Sony doesn't know how to limit the amount of times you can put the details in clearly. Also just another case of flawed security.
It wasn't Sony that was hacked, nor was it any company. It was user accounts who had weak passwords.
Because it's completely normal to have a system allowing you to attempt authorization 10000 times over a short period of time.
Because it's completely normal to have a system allowing you to attempt authorization 10000 times over a short period of time.
even fucking neopets and facebook have better protection
Have people forgotten how wonderful their childhoods were thanks to the PS1 and PS2? Sony, don't die!
Have people forgotten how wonderful their childhoods were thanks to the PS1 and PS2? Sony, don't die!
Sony has changed, and so have we.
Have people forgotten how wonderful their childhoods were thanks to the PS1 and PS2? Sony, don't die!
You know what else was good in my childhood? Power Rangers. And Power Rangers needs to die in a violent car fire. [editline]21st May 2011[/editline] This, basically:
Sony has changed, and so have we.
