Now my dad decided to talk to some IT guy at work who decided the graphics card is to good and over priced for games as well as the motherboard being crap. He then suggested this pc instead being in mind he knows it for games;

So is my dad being an idiot (and maybe IT guy)?
The 570 isn't overpriced, for gaming you won't need 6 cores, I'm not sure about the PSU, but everything else looks good

Yeah i agree with the 6 cores but it wasn't that much more expensive than the i5 i was going for so though may as well
As Jaehead said, you don't need six cores, and I don't like that PSU.
Lol do IT guys never know anything about gaming or what?

I think when he thinks games he thinks pac man
Even specialist don't know everything. The graphics card seems fine to me too. How much more was the six core than the i5?

£20ish i think
So he sends you towards a hexa-core and a GT 230 for gaming?
What a fuck-up of an "IT" guy.
HP Pavilion? I recall that thing being an absolute piece of garbage.
Show your dad this thread. That guy he talked to is a fucking moron.
You really don't need a 570. Go for a 5870 or something else, make the price closer to the pavilion then show him that the PC you're building is cheaper and more powerful.

Orrrr. Show him benchmarks between the GTX 570 and GT 230 and show him that it has significantly better price:performance than both the 5870 and GT 230.

I managed to convince him that the one he recommended is shit but he still thinks the graphics card is going out of date in 3 months and the motherboard is bottlenecking the card and cpu. Going to a comp shop tomorrow so we will speak to them
I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure an i5 750/760 would perform better than an x6 in games

It will. A Phenom II x4 will in most cases, too.

I bought a GTX 460 few months ago and it's already outdated.

I thought i5s were considerably faster than Phenoms x4s
[editline]wef[/editline]
also I don't think 460s are outdated yet

Not that much, the AMD Phenoms are slower, but not THAT much slower.

I think that your dad can be summed up in one phrase: "lolpavilion"
I am tempted to get a job at Best Buy as Geek Squad, but I really don't want to have to rage every other second. Never trust an "IT" guy. Almost all of them don't know much more about computers than the buyer in my experience. Stick with Facepunch and people who you know for sure have actually looked inside a PC.

Yep, just remember to listen to peoples needs instead of what you think they need, I hate people like that.

I try to keep away from mainstream shops like pc world for that reason there all useless lol
obviously the IT guys knows that the card is high-end, and the only thing he knows about you and your game selection is your age(which he probably surmises you're not playing ridiculous high-end games).
he was probably just saving your dad a buck.
and don't get a hexa-core.
well the "IT" guy suggested a prebuilt with a 6-core and a bad GPU so obviously he doesn't know much about computers
also for the price the prebuilt is terrible

Yeah i do play high end games
Wait so are you building a PC and if you are what is the budget/games you want to play/resolution/OS needed?
That IT guy should be fired immediately.

I don't think it's his fault. It's probably because IT involves doing the most boring shit you've ever done with computers, ever. If you're dealing with individual computers, you're usually dealing with cheap shit used mostly for word processing and what have you.
A GT230? Yes, he's mentally disabled.
