I need a fun way to dispose of it. So far I've been suggested to a) bake it to see if it'll work again, b) burn it, c) drive over it, d) make a usb fish out of it.
Stick your dick in it.

That is important if you want to see if you can get it working again. Driving over it won't do anything. You would have to sandwich it between two boards and drive over the boards. Just placing the flash drive on the ground with rubber tires it will hold up better than you think. Baking it would be uneventful. Burning it would be uneventful. I guess the fish option is the only one that would be useful.

My dad brought it home from work the other day and said I could have it if I could fix it. Windows 98 startup disk won't fix it, windows 7's format and diskpart won't fix it, linux's fdisk and gparted and mkdosfs won't fix it, so I gave up. There's always an IO error or an error closing the file. Oh and chkdsk just spams me with tons of broken chains and then tells me only 32mb of the 8gb are usable.
If it's giving out write/read errors I'm guessing all read/write cycles have been used up.
If you own a gun and a guns license go to a range or someplace where you can use it as a target for accuracy testing.
If you want, see if you can use the case for a micro something or other, like a torch.
hook it up to your 220/120V wall socket, than microwave it [editline]21st July 2011[/editline] you can use regular 5 volts and also microwave it

That's some pretty intense usage. I can't get a gun license yet, I'm 18 in December only. That and my mom hates guns.

Walk around town yelling ALIEN DEVICE and throw it at people. Attempt to pick it up and do it again.

So far microwaving the thing sounds like the most fun, though I'm sure my mother would not be impressed with that XD

You have to charge it with a USB charger for 72 hours.
If I plug it in to my PC and short some random leads on it, will it kill my USB port/hub?
If I plug it in to my PC and short some random leads on it, will it kill my USB port/hub?
I can't say for sure. I think if you connect the positive and negative wires, than i'm 98% sure that you will cause damage to your pc. The data leads don't matter,i got them connect once(by accident) and my pc has no damage from it.
I think that so far the best thing to do is: -take some aluminum or plastic plate -put some matches on the plate -put the drive on the matches -make sure you have a fire extinguisher -put everything into a microwave (except the fire extinguisher) at full power for 5-10 minutes -make your momma proud!!!
You have to charge it with a USB charger for 72 hours.
I'm curious now and want to see what would happen.

[editline]23rd July 2011[/editline] So I plugged it in and started shorting some random leads, windows kept telling me about hardware changes, and the light on it flashed randomly sometimes. Then I shorted something I don't know, there was a very tiny flash, and now it doesn't work at all anymore. XD

My motherboard says there is some USB "power fault" or something like that and shuts down. So it might not do anything horrible. Still, I wouldn't do it on purpose in case it actually DID fry it.
