Also,
Australia has obligations to protect the human rights of all asylum seekers and refugees who arrive in Australia, regardless of how or where they arrive and whether they arrive with or without a visa.
As a party to the Refugees Convention, Australia has agreed to ensure that people who meet the United Nations definition of refugee are not sent back to a country where their life or freedom would be threatened. This is known as the principle of non-refoulement.
United Nations definition of Refugee [Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees]
Any person who: owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable to or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country"
just going to point this out before any crucifying starts - the situation in Australia is such that the condition of the ships and the sheer amount of asylum seekers forced into those ships is absolutely appalling and many of them cannot swim - the authorities often get there in time, but often they can't and when they do, there's no guarantee they will be able to save absolutely everyone
While the system itself is appalling and needs to be changed, just for the record there are no deaths among asylum seekers off the Australian coast due to laziness or maliciousness on the part of those whose duty it is to save them
Hopefully it sends a warning out to those who try to come by boat that they should be waiting in the proper lines and not jump the queue.
its their own fault really, why should i be sad for these people which want to cheat their way into my country.

You don't understand the phrase "asylum seeker", do you?

Do you read? Do you have the physical ability to comprehend information?
Unfortunately, neither major party seems to care enough about refugees human rights to do anything. There is a reason they push so hard for offshore processing, so the rights the government has to respect can be evaded and any oversight deferred.

If you actually had any genuine knowledge of anything surrounding boat arrivals you wouldn't be saying this. Stop listening to Alan Jones

No it won't, because these people are desperate and willing to possibly sacrifice their lives just to reach Australia. Proper lines don't mean shit when you feel like your life is possibly threatened

They are following the proper processes as best they can, unfortunately the only way they can do it is by people smugglers.

If you want evidence for death not sending a message I have bookmarked a few things that highlight human nature to do anything to get to safety:

What I don't understand is that the Australian government is sending billions of dollars overseas to aid other poorer countries yet we still get refugees.

Spoken like a real first world citizen. Go back and check definition of asylum seeker (they aren't refugees yet) and then consider the fact that giving a country money isn't giving the people money. Corruption etc. and we don't send money to every struggling country. They are coming here for safety, not for money.
