• In a pickle with HTC Desire, need some advice!

Hoi, I hope someone here can help me out a little with my problem. I have had a HTC Desire since June, bought it from an Orange shop. Hated the stock "Orange" ROM, it kept restarting, overheating and battery life was poor. Full of bloatware. Decided to flash to a custom Froyo ROM, Cyanogenmod 6.0. Worked perfect for about a month and a half. Problems which I initially had disappeared.. well that was until about 3 weeks ago. It started to restart (usually it would appear to overheat) when I was doing anything slightly memory intensive like browsing rich media websites or playing doodle jump for too long.. on the phone for too long. So I decided to under-clock it. 350Mhz I think. Everything worked perfectly again. Battery life tripled. Was really happy with it. Skip to about a week ago. Original problem started to occur again. However, everything was slightly worse. Battery would become quite hot to the touch after a minute or two. After about 3-4 minutes it would restart, but not your normal restart.. it was in a boot loop.. restart... bootscreen....restart...bootscreen.. Basically this happened about 6-10 times, daily. Really fucking got on my nerves.. pretty much rendered me phone-less. Decided to give Orange a call, (I've got Orange care(Insurance)).. told them my problem, the dude told me it was a battery fault and they would send a new one out. Battery arrived today. no. fucking. different. same old shit, restart after restart. Now, I know it's a hardware fault, it's got to be. It couldn't possible be a software fault (because i've had it since day one.. through about 4-5 different roms). My problem is, I know Orange are really funny about claims, so I decided to flash my phone back to standard 2.1 ROM. I cannot flash the orange rom because it restarts still. I don't want Orange to void my insurance because I've flashed the phone and they accuse me of damaging it myself. I could possibly try to put an icepack on it, then hopefully flash to the standard orange rom.. but then it comes to the case of de-rooting it.. which i think will be a bitch. So, my question is.. 1) has anyone had a similar problem? 2) are Orange cocks when it comes to claims? 3) will they void my insurance if i send them my phone? 4) do i worsen the problem (i.e. phone in the microwave) to really fuck it up? I'm just worried they're going to say no.. and i'll be backing £40 a month for nothing :(
open up the battery and break open the cells while the phone is on [editline]11:22PM[/editline] do it in a well ventilated area with eye protection [editline]11:24PM[/editline] or get a disposable camera and wire the flash circuit into the phone.
Are you a member of XDA? I'd ask over there, if I was you.
That is a bizarre problem. To be honest it does sound like a battery fault, but after two batteries that is unlikely unless something in the phone hardware is causing the battery to fail. I think keeping it cool whilst reflashing is your best bet.
well, finally phoned up orange.. told them the problem, they said it was most likely a hardware fault and they sent me out a new one last night. if they mention my old phone being flashed or anything I'll just hands down deny it.. "flash? is that like taking a picture with the flash on?" "i take a lot of pictures in the dark". the new phone is awesome, slightly heavier.. not sure why? but no problems whatsoever.. gets "warm" whereas my old phone would have became "hot" and rebooted.. cheers anyway!
