• NSW bill to ban unvaccinated kids from preschools and childcare centres.
Labor leader John Robertson will introduce amendments to the public health act which would give early childhood centres the right to refuse kids who haven’t had their shots. The move comes amid concern about high rates of unvaccinated children in some parts of NSW as well as the emergence of so-called ‘‘anti-vaxxers’’ who refuse vaccination. I'm not sure how to feel about this since I'm not sure if vaccinated children can easily spread the vaccinated illnesses to non-vaccinated children. [editline]19th May 2013[/editline] this is a good time for that penn&teller video
Good. Prevents children that are refused vaccination by their dumb parents from giving others the flu or anything else
Good. Prevents children that are refused vaccination by their dumb parents from giving others the flu or anything else
Maybe I'm confused but, if everyone is vaccinated, why would an unvaccinated person be an issue? Isn't the vaccination supposed to defend you to a degree or what?
Maybe I'm confused but, if everyone is vaccinated, why would an unvaccinated person be an issue? Isn't the vaccination supposed to defend you to a degree or what?
it is a problem if there are other unvaccinated children around them
"But i dont want my kid to have autism!!!!!"
it is a problem if there are other unvaccinated children around them
Again, am I misunderstanding something, what if someone has the flu and they're around you and you're vaccinated, shouldn't it not be a problem? Isn't the reason to take the vaccine so you don't need to worry about getting the flu from other people?
yes, but if the unvaccinated child gets the flu and goes to school with other unvaccinated kids, they will also get the flu, which is why this is a problem
some people cant get the vaccine due to allergies or whatever else but are safe due to herd immunity = everyone that can be vaccinated is and so can't get the disease and pass it on, not being vaccinated compromises that and indirectly causes harm to those that are unable to get the vaccine.

Isn't the reason to take the vaccine so you don't need to worry about getting the flu from other people?
its less to directly affect you, its more to keep herd immunity up
Maybe I'm confused but, if everyone is vaccinated, why would an unvaccinated person be an issue? Isn't the vaccination supposed to defend you to a degree or what?
Because of the mechanics of vaccination. In the ideal world, everyone who can be vaccinated is vaccinated. This gives the entire population near total immunity, and the disease that was vaccinated against will slowly die out. (good example at the moment is polio, which will be extinct in the near future, hopefully) Now, most people can be vaccinated, as their immune systems are up to it. Some people, however, for medical reasons, cannot be vaccinated and as such rely on pack immunity, which is essentially "most people cannot get the disease, therefore it cannot spread". If enough of a population is vaccinated, the disease won't be able to spread, and those who cannot get vaccinated are protected anyway. People who refuse vaccination when they are perfectly able to be vaccinated are destroying the pack immunity, as there are more people for any disease to spread to. This in turn harms those who are physically incapable of being vaccinated. Therefore, any reasonable way of penalising those who refuse to get vaccines for stupid reasons is good, as they are indirectly harming those who are already physically infirm.

It would suck if you couldn't take your kid to a child care because he literally can't get a vaccine, rather than because you're a dumb parent and won't have him take it.
Good. If people want to leave their kids open to disease, they shouldn't be in a public place. Honestly I think these kids, and adults that do not have their immunizations should be quarantined similar to how we treated the plague.
[editline]19th May 2013[/editline] this is a good time for that penn&teller video
Coming right up! [editline]19th May 2013[/editline] Are you fucking serious
yeah let's take all those gross sickies and just stick them in a camp somewhere
Sounds good. If they don't want modern medicine, they don't belong in the modern world. I was being facetious by agreeing with him. I just think parents should be thrown in prison for child abuse.
yeah let's take all those gross sickies and just stick them in a camp somewhere
No we should put them were they can spread disease!
Watch how many people who don't trust the government will be all up and arms because they don't want their child doing these vaccination over some conspiracy that those vaccinations will give their child autism or implement some chip into their body.
No we should put them were they can spread disease!
oh fucking well, a sick kid isn't the end of the world
To the people rating me dumbs, why should my kids be subjected to sitting next to some kid that could potentially be fatal? For the sake of the argument of "if your kid is vaccinated you shouldn't be worried", what about the kids that are walking diseases? All because their fucking asshole uneducated half witted parents believe in "alternative medicine" and that vaccinations cause autism, or their religion says that their kids aren't allowed to visit the hospital? These vaccinations should be mandatory. Not providing them to your child is and should be legally classified as child abuse REGARDLESS of personal or religious beliefs. There are exceptions, like being allergic to the aforementioned vaccinations but anyone else, medicate your goddamn kids or be prepared to either hand them over to Child Protective Services and go to prison.
Maybe I'm confused but, if everyone is vaccinated, why would an unvaccinated person be an issue? Isn't the vaccination supposed to defend you to a degree or what?
Unvaccinated children provide a location for the diseases to evolve and overcome vaccinations. The more people vaccinated the less chance of the disease evolving into something new and worse
Sounds good. If they don't want modern medicine, they don't belong in the modern world.
lol you're actually supporting concentration camps
oh fucking well, a sick kid isn't the end of the world
These aren't sick kids. These are life threatening diseases that we're trying to eradicate meanwhile we have some dipshit uneducated hippie conspiracy theorists acting as the legal guardians to children and because of them, polio still exists, kids get sick from completely preventable diseases and sicknesses. Children die because of these "personal and religious beliefs" and that's where I draw the fucking line.
Maybe I'm confused but, if everyone is vaccinated, why would an unvaccinated person be an issue? Isn't the vaccination supposed to defend you to a degree or what?
In California, there are so many people going without vaccinations now that they are starting to step them up, more and earlier just to try and combat the fact that herd immunity isn't really working as intended anymore.
lol you're actually supporting concentration camps
A little extreme but there is a special place in hell reserved for people who mistreat and abuse children. Not treating your kids for easily preventable diseases and sicknesses is child abuse.
lol you're actually supporting concentration camps
bit of a jump from "stay at home" to "ROUND EM UP INTO WORK CAMPS"
there hasn't been a polio outbreak in the US since 1979, and that was among an amish community
According to an organization that focuses on educating and eradicating polio, there has been "26 WPV (polio) cases in 2013 so far" I don't care if it's an outbreak or not. It was easily preventable and if these kids lived 50 years ago, they'd be dead. They're lucky it's treatable now.
bit of a jump from "stay at home" to "ROUND EM UP INTO WORK CAMPS"
"stay at home forever because you're doing something i think is wrong"
