I don't know what may be the cause of this, but it always happens when I play a game.
I tried cleaning it (twice), making sure there is no dust, and that hasn't worked.
Oddly enough, Source SDK model viewer and hammer seem to have no problems.
What graphics card do you have, and what temp is it at when playing a game?
It's an ATI Raedon HD 3800 series. and as for temperature, I have no way of telling.

Not playing a game: 55°C
Playing game: 75°C (and rising but as soon as it got to 76°C, it glitched and froze)
I am convinced that overheating is the problem.

I would also like to point out the fact that this has been happening recently about a week ago, and ive had this PC for a while.
That's not that hot, does it freeze every time it hits 76C?
Also try updating/reinstalling the drivers.

1. Im pretty sure it's around that temp it does that, but ill see if I can get more readings.
2. Tried that, nothing changed.

Just finished testing it again. It went up to temperatures as high as 88, but it then lowered itself to 76, and then it froze.
It's as if 76 is a bad number for my PC.
Just found out that the dots only appear in the game exe.
I learned this when I tried playing a game windowed.
Update your video drivers. The temps are normal.

He already said he tried that.
Try it with a different graphics card, if you're able. Even if it's not overheating, it might still be the problem.

Then rate late.
Have you completely uninstalled and re installed the drivers?
Uninstall, restart, install, restart.
Does it happen in just gmod or other (non source) games aswel?
Your symptoms indicate that just before the video card crashes it is writing garbage data directly to the framebuffer. If the driver reinstall does not fix and neither does improving cooling, the cad is bad.
The type of artifacts remind me of faulty RAM causing this with on board video cards.
Here is another pic of the freezing if you can tell whats going on.

Also, as for updating my drivers, i'll try that once more to be sure it won't work.

If the card is fucked, well im fucked too.
Oh and another thing.
I tried doing a stress test with FurMark, the dynamic camera one, and shit went down hard.
It was perfect for about 3 seconds then I got an effect similiar to the picture above, then my pc blacked out and restarted itself.
That looks like a dead card to me. Old 8800GT did the exact same thing. Week later wouldn't even boot.
Well shit, anyone got any recommendations for a new card?
What is your budget?
We don't even know his full specs.
Post specs AND budget.
His card is from 2007, so probably a core 2 or an equal AMD variant PCIE 2 capable with at least 450 watt PSU. Unless he wants to spend over €70 you can pretty much recommend any card keeping this in mind.
Ehh nevermind. But thanks for all the help guys.
