Pope Francis was offered a Tesla Model S or a Nissan LEAF, he chose the LEAF
While Catholicism advocates to end poverty, the Vatican is known for its excessive luxury. The current Pope has been known for not indulging, or at least less so than previous Popes, in the luxurious lifestyle.
He showed his more modest attitude again recently when he reportedly turned down Tesla’s premium sedan, the Model S, in favor of a Nissan LEAF.
Berlin-based asset manager Jochen Wermuth has been leading an effort to convince the Vatican to divest its assets from fossil fuels and invest in sustainable energy.
I like the leaf. It's cute and I feel it fits Francis more than a tesla
I understand the LEAF looks less excessive but the Tesla pretty much stomps it in every category, for a fraction more than the Leaf.
My brother also just bought a Nissan LEAF.

A fraction more? The Model S starts at more than twice as much than the Leaf.
I also just bought a Leaf.
This guy is a Jesuit, I'm not surprised he went for the more austere looking Leaf.
I love and hate the design of the leaf. As a car, it's ugly as sin, but there are some elements of the leaf's visual aesthetic that, when removed from the context of an automobile, appeal to me in some strange way.
The nissan leaf has no telescopic steering wheel. God bless the pope's back.
I can't imagine him using the car very much more than going to the airport.
I just wish the leaf wasn't such an ugly car

It's not ugly. The headlights actually hold aerodynamic functionality.
That picture looked like on in an Onion article, actually had to check the source.

2/1 is still a fraction :eng101:
It's not ugly. The headlights actually hold aerodynamic functionality.
No, it is so ugly it's a sin in itself.
The nissan leaf has no telescopic steering wheel. God bless the pope's back.
Unless he's itty-bitty tiny or +2 meter tall then it doesn't matter.
It's not ugly. The headlights actually hold aerodynamic functionality.
So? A car can be as aerodynamic and functional as possible but it doesn't stop it from looking fucking horrible.

Looks are subjective. I for one, like the look of the leaf.
well i guess that settles the debate. The leaf is the better vehicle.
All modern Nissans look terrible to be fair.
Still, the Leaf isn't a bad car in any way, just not really exciting.
Props on Francis for being humble.

Whether or not something looks good is extremely subjective yes, and imo the Leaf just looks like a retarded frog or something

Doesn't change the fact they make it look like a pepe on wheels.

I beg to differ at least for the new Maxima, this thing gets me excited for some reason:

But the Leaf, that poor thing looks like its face was stretched up and back, it's hideous.

That looks like a Murano sedan, pretty ugly.

Yeah, I'm definitely only a fan for the Maxima nowadays. Can't even stand the stale look of the 350 anymore either.
I do have an Xterra Sport though and while they aren't terribly attractive it is a blast to drive.

Xterras are pretty nice, it's only a good thing that they were discontinued before the wave of turd designs flooded it's current lineup (with the exception of the Frontier which remains unchanged since 2005).
I think the reason the Pope chose the leaf is that it's more of a people's car (despite it's price).
Like you can get a Leaf pretty much at any Nissan dealership, you sign a payment plan for it and bam it's yours. A Tesla you need to find the store, order the right specifications, wait a while etc. It's also a bit more expensive as well.

I didn't like them in picture but when I got up close with it I grew much fonder of it.

My mom wanted to replace her 2002 Xterra, but now she can't since they're discontinued.

Oh yes, especially those two.
This front-end has been copy pasted on all of their sedans, it got stale real quick.

That weird outline dent thing on the headlights though, it really sets off liking the design more. Like, why did you need to go do that?
Other than that, I don't really mind Nissan's design it's pretty inoffensive, which is both and good and bad thing.
