“We will also change the license to remove the line that promises all future versions of the game for free. Please note that this change only affects people who buy the game after December 20, so if you got the game for during alpha, you will still get all future updates for free, despite this change.”
Does this mean there will be paid dlc in the future?

He did it to please his lawyers. He's a good guy - I don't think he'd do anything like that - it's just so that he can.(I met him IRL, he really is a good guy) Right now, all alpha buyers are entitled to all future upgrades ( and we will always be ).

No, he's doing that only because it scared lawyers. You'll still get all updates free regardless of when you buy the game according to Notch's twitter.
Nice to know that we'll get all future versions for free.
:buddy:
Does the change to beta also mean an update? Or is he simply just going to rebrand the current version to beta status?
I was expecting some big feature when it got into beta. Nothing like that is mentioned. I'm rather disappointed.
luckily i bought the Alpha version! :buddy:
Well that's nice the game is moving forward

I don't have the link, but he has a check-list of things that are being introduced in beta.
He did it just because then in the future he can charge money without worrying about being sued, but he probably won't anyway.
I am slightly annoyed about the price change though.

He always said alpha would be cheaper than beta, and beta cheaper than the final.
So I have a week to finally buy and try Minecraft. I won't :smith:

Yes, it was on his blog a while ago if you like searching.
Well, I guess its time to buy minecraft.
Am i the only one who has absolutely no interest in minecraft?
Am i the only one who has absolutely no interest in minecraft?
No. but the only person I know that doesn't has some wild conspiracy theory about Notch stealing the game and claiming it as his own, among a fuck ton of other random stuff.
Uh oh, I'm getting Minecraft for Christmas. Hopefully my sister gets it before December 20th.
Am i the only one who has absolutely no interest in minecraft?
Of course not.
But have you even tried it?
I NEED MINECRAFT

Why did you wait for it to get a price raise to buy the game?
Of course not.

Nope, looks horrible.
[editline]12th December 2010[/editline]
Plus, i won't even consider buying it unless he puts it on steam.

Uh, okay. Two uh, very 'valid' reasons to completely dismiss a game

Well you're a bit of a jerk aren't you?
I really don't think it's worth $15.
[editline]12th December 2010[/editline]
Oops, $20. Euro to USD it's $20
Well at current prices it's around 13-15 dollars.
After the price change it will be near 20.

It's always been stated on the minecraft page, and he's said it several times too, that the game enters beta when multiplayer is fixed.
Basically he didn't want to call it beta before it was working correctly in multiplayer, and that's it. Technically singleplayer has been in beta for many many months.
He's probably bitter at everyone who didn't buy alpha.
Give them a bit of a slap in the face. :v:
