NRA: "Open carry demonstrations crossed the line from enthusiasm to downright foolishness."
Companies, customers and others critical of Texas gun rights advocates who have brought military-style assault rifles into businesses as part of demonstrations supporting "open carry" gun rights now have a surprising ally: the National Rifle Association.
The advocates' actions in restaurants and other public places — part of a push for less restrictive gun laws, including legalizing the open carry of handguns — have prompted public criticism.

The NRA said the demonstrations have "crossed the line from enthusiasm to downright foolishness."
"Using guns merely to draw attention to yourself in public not only defies common sense, it shows a lack of consideration and manners. That's not the Texas way. And that's certainly not the NRA way," the NRA said in a statement posted on its website Friday.

Texas has some of the least restrictive gun laws in the country, but openly carrying handguns remains illegal. Long guns like rifles can be carried openly but must be done so in a way that does not cause alarm. But gun holders can be charged with disorderly conduct if anyone around them feels threatened

We had a soccermom call my managers the other day when I was at work because a guy was open carrying this glorious M1911 on his hip.
Didn't threaten anyone
didn't make any trouble.
Paid for what he needed, told us to have a blessed day and that was that.
but m-m-muh chillins
They've been doing this shit in my town. Acting like a bunch a fuckholes.
NRA damage control because they realized how reckless their rank and file look.
If you carry a piece because you are afraid of travelling a certain area, you should be CC'ing.
If you are carrying a rifle on your back and provoking police, provoking locals, and provoking anyone who questions you... You are being a cunt.

These exist for a reason folks. Treat a firearm as a tool of individualism, but also have the hospitality to not scare people and give them their rights to the pursuit of happiness.

What? Nothing exactly wrong with that statement. Don't be a cunt, treat a firearm as a tool, but also realize that some people would rather no see someone strolling down the street with a fully kitted out AR15.
I really don't people who open carry. The only thing it does is scare people and make you and normal gun owners look like twats.
If you want to carry, but like the rest of us and just get a CC permit. You don't need to walk around with your bubba'd SKS or AR-15.

Don't be so defensive.
I was just enjoying the high abstractions.

But NoDachi, I cannot open carry on the internet. How else will I protect my high abstractions!?

seeing a dude walk into a store with a fuckin .45 on his hip in a first world country isn't glorious

I shall open carry them for my freedoms o7

He was saying the gun itself is glorious. Doesn't matter whether it's in walmart or a gun show, it's still a neat gun. But if it's going to be carried around walmart it should be concealed at the very least.

they literally didn't
Jesus christ, there's some sets of society that are so shat all over that the media feels utterly no need to be responsible for what they post. "Assault weapons" is one of them.
A gun is like a penis: no one wants to see you walking around with it out in public.

hey girls, wanna blow my ak74.
I'd open carry my handgun if it was legal but only in a secure manner and only because I do a lot of urbex around my city which can lead you to meet unpleasant people. I'd carry the piece concealed if it wasn't 100 degrees all the time rendering any coat to cover it impractical.
There's no reason to carry a rifle or shotgun around on foot in public, period.
e: What I said here was legitimately dumb and the product of not thinking ahead. I have nothing to hide

somehow urbexing while carrying a gun seems like an incredibly stupid thing to do
if you're so concerned about 'unpleasant people', rethink your hobby, not your ability to kill them.

It's not my ability to kill them, it's that petty thieves are less prone to make a move if they think they might catch a bullet. I've been mugged before urbexing and I'm 100% the sight of a firearm, even secured at my hip, would've put them off.

Or get you, or someone else killed.
Or get you, or someone else killed.
Fair enough. I guess if the other person is packing it could lead to shooting, but I didn't think that far ahead. :v:
I didn't think that far ahead.
and these people are allowed firearms lmao

If I saw someone walking around somewhere they probably shouldn't be whilst carrying a gun the first thing I would do is call the police.

Or arrested for armed trespassing, which is a felony.

afaik depending on the building urbexing counts as breaking and entering, so nice job breaking into an abandoned building and shooting a hobo in the face man i'm sure that'll go down super well once you call 911 and get arrested
but man you're skulking around a shitty building with a gun you must be so fuckin cool and tough and not a psychopath at all
and these people are allowed firearms lmao
And fortunately not allowed to carry them around in public. I don't put much thought into how a situation would play out if someone else had a gun because it's a non-issue. You can rest assured I know how to handle a firearm in my own home.
hey girls, wanna blow my ak74.
is that a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me
really i need to know if this is an attempted robbery or an attempted sexual assault for when i call the police
A gun is like a penis: no one wants to see you walking around with it out in public.
Uhm maybe I do? You don't know me.

seriously i want you to tell someone in a real life social situation that you make a hobby of breaking into abandoned factories with a gun on you in case you have to suddenly shoot or kill someone. i'm sure their reaction will be one of sheer bewonderment and they will forever have you pegged as a delightfully enchanting individual

see this is the thing, you figure you've got a gun so you put yourself in a situation where you might have to use it and possibly kill someone, rather than sensibly leaving well enough alone and not having to bring a bleedin gun with you everywhere you go
