The British Sky Broadcasting Group won its battle with the software giant after claiming that the SkyDrive product could cause confusion with its own Sky broadband services. A UK judge agreed. The ruling also stands for the entire European Union and has led Microsoft to consider its branding. After deciding not to appeal the decision, Microsoft has agreed to change the name, although it is yet to reveal what to. BSkyB will allow the firm to continue to use the brand "for a reasonable period of time to allow for an orderly transition to a new brand".
So now I can't say "the sky will be blue tomorrow"?
This is just stupid. I'm sorry it just is.
Are they going to have to rename Skype too?
~LiveDrive~ Keeping in line with their new thing seems to be their focus right now after all.
This is actually pretty bad for Microsoft, I can see sky drive being a main feature for products down the line and having to change the brand will confuse a lot of people. It takes time to develop a brand name people recognise and it'll almost be like they'll have to re-educate some consumers from scratch. As for the case itself, I think skydrive's name relates more to the sky (because of the 'cloud' ) than a television subscription service does...
even though that "cloud" nonsense is bullshit, i have to admit at least SkyDrive was a neat name
Rename it to Skynet
even though that "cloud" nonsense is bullshit, i have to admit at least SkyDrive was a neat name
this is a completely objective opinion here ladies and gentlemen /s
[sp]I know they can't do this[/sp] [editline]31st July 2013[/editline] My automurge :'C
So now I can't say "the sky will be blue tomorrow"?
No, you just cant use the word "Sky" in your product or company, they've obviously reserved it.
-snip- nevermind, turns out it was a merger between two broadcasting companies
Rename it to Skynet
I literally just got done watching the series you have no idea how hard I laughed. But in all seriousness we'd have to blow up Microsoft at some point.
Nobody even knows of BskyB outside of the UK, this is so stupid
Nobody even knows of BskyB outside of the UK, this is so stupid
well, Sky operates in my country, so... [editline]1st August 2013[/editline] and several other central american countries as well I think.
well, Sky operates in my country, so... [editline]1st August 2013[/editline] and several other central american countries as well I think.
BSkyB manage 33% of Sky News Australia & New Zealand but you never hear them mentioned, they don't provide anything down under that's all managed by Foxtel (Telstra)
even though that "cloud" nonsense is bullshit, i have to admit at least SkyDrive was a neat name
I signed up for Skydrive way back when they were in beta with a 25GB limit instead of the 7GB one they have today. I was grandfathered into that, it's pretty neat. It basically allows me to access all my schoolwork between computers.
Anyone remeber Mesh?

It is linked directly to my OneNote so I could write notes in class which would be instantly uploaded and available on my desktop and my phone at any time. And the schoolwork thing is just a no brainer.
SkyDrive One, maybe? :v:
'Sky with friends'. There, i said it, now sue me!
Nobody even knows of BskyB outside of the UK, this is so stupid
To be fair, when I heard someone mention SkyDrive, I assumed it was a BSkyB product at first, and considering the court order only applies to the EU and UK, this completely makes sense.
my friend's dad works at microsoft ( no his dad is not bill gater) and my friend said that the new name is ,,SpyDrive"
~LiveDrive~ Keeping in line with their new thing seems to be their focus right now after all.
already a cloud storage company called livedrive.
already a cloud storage company called livedrive.
Hmm. Well they could always buy them out :v: Though that would be a ton more costly than a rebranding.
Windows® Live Cloud™
my friend's dad works at microsoft ( no his dad is not bill gater) and my friend said that the new name is ,,SpyDrive"
i bet he also works for VAC
Why not just Microdrive
~LiveDrive~ Keeping in line with their new thing seems to be their focus right now after all.
imho live was the old branding and they're moving away from it slowly. my guess is it will be something azure related perhaps.
To be fair, when I heard someone mention SkyDrive, I assumed it was a BSkyB product at first, and considering the court order only applies to the EU and UK, this completely makes sense.
Would only make sense for the UK, I'd say the UK sky is almost unknown elsewhere. I doubt I've seen or heard it anywhere before.
Why not just Microdrive
Well that would just make it sound like there's not much space.
