Yep, I'll probably buy this. Treyarch actually makes really great Calladoody games.
Infinity Ward dropped dedicated server support in 2009's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, then Treyarch brought it back the next year in the first Black Ops. While Infinity Ward did support dedicated servers in last year's Modern Warfare 3, they were unranked, meaning you couldn't level up or unlock weapons playing on them. And here we are today, with everything you want.
This is why I like Treyarch and the only reason I have continued faith in the CoD series.
I love how this is news and everyone rates it winner as if this is a luxury feature. Surely this should come as standard?

it's so we can go "holy shit im buying this then"
I kind of hope there's matchmaking too, Black Ops pretty much only had 24/7 nuketown/firing range servers the last time I played and I would like to play all of the maps after the game is a few months old.
I'm actually looking forward to playing this

2. have this:
you take this thing and put it
in your mind.
let's call it:
call of duty ok?
after that IMAGINE that it killed your dog and children from your sweet home
i mean
you must HATE IT TO DEATH (indeed)
this requires to type without looking at the keyboard. as your eyes are covered...
wait for it...
NOW Every time your call of duty thread sensor flips shit use your posting skills to tell how much you hate it in the thread.
there you go sir now try and post again!
Didn't they say this with other Call of Duty games before?

IW was better.
The real IW that is.
MW2 didn't have dedis probly because Activision decided to just make an awful port from console to PC and not even add dedicated server support, maybe to also fight custom stuff.
MW3 didn't have ranked servers, I have no idea why. It might aswell not have them, since they were shit, full of quickscoping only servers and only preset classes.
Nothing beats MW1 servers.
looks good btw.
I love how this is news and everyone rates it winner as if this is a luxury feature. Surely this should come as standard?
It's not really a luxury or a marketing item.
It's just clarification that this version of the game, as opposed to the previous one, will have dedicated servers that support ranked play.
Context.
remove a feature then put it back and make an announcement to further sales. genius.
So, I feel kinda dirty for saying this, but this one is actually starting to look... somewhat good... :suicide:

Blops didn't have stopping power, was in a neat setting, had overall good balance, and dedicated servers after MW2 removed them.
Blops 2 is reintroducing dedicated servers, will more than likely have better multiplayer then the mess that was MW3, and again takes place in atleast a somewhat unique setting other than Battlefield of Duty: Modern Honor.
Infinity Ward was good up until MW2 where they started slipping, and after most of their talent left before MW3 it shows.
baby steps/too little too late
I'm still impressed at how they managed to get a fucking wallhacks scope in the game, like that's not gonna be easily made into a hack or imbalance the shit out of MP.
remove a feature then put it back and make an announcement to further sales. genius.
It was removed by another developer. Treyarch added it back before. I really don't understand why everyone is trying to see this from a negative standpoint.
If it didn't have dedicated servers it gets shit on. If it adds dedicated servers it's obviously a marketing conspiracy.

Still a winner over how IW has treated the PC community.

I dunno the Battlefield series has had built in ESP since Bad Company 1 and no one's really complained about that particular feature imbalancing the multiplayer.

I want to believe that this isn't true but... Everytime I think about it, it seems like it was a dick move on their side to get more money.

"IW"
The real IW basically ceased to exist after mw2.

Wait for it and then comment about it.
I highly doubt they are gonna make it that easy.

It's just ridiculous how it has to be advertised as a feature.
Twice.
When other PC games have it out of the box.
The idea that an entirely different developer is going to exclude ranked dedicated servers only for another developer working on the series to include it as part of some elaborate marketing scheme to sell copies seems kind of ridiculous me when you recall the that poor PC support really started the ball rolling on the bandwagon hate the CoD series has gotten since MW2.
I think it's more likely that IW just had a different vision of the series (hence the online service being named IWnet as opposed to Activinet or something) and Treyarch wanted to stick with tried and true dedicated. Especially when you take into consideration the fact that systems like IWnet actually require more work on the developer side it makes more sense to not use it and just rely on third party hosts.

lesser of two evils

Didn't MW3 promise a sort of hybrid? Or was that BO? Because in all honesty I don't see why they can't have both. Drop-in gameplay, or if you want to be a masochist and join an eGO server then you can/
I dunno if this counts as an advertisement. After MW3 a lot of people were curious if the next CoD would have dedicated servers so they wanted to let people know.
Again if we are talking about this being some great marketing move for them one short tweet doesn't really seem to be the best way to get your message out.

MW3 had IWnet which was just matchmaking on locally-hosted peer to peer servers, and unranked dedicated servers that were actually pretty damn modifiable, something a lot of games these days don't do. Black Ops had a full server browser and I believe (could be wrong here) also a quick join option. Having both would be nice but if the choice is one or the other I'll take a dedicated server option with server browser any day.
lesser of two evils
"evil" is a strong term for a game company. I'd probably say lesser of the two incompetents.
The other side of the sword is, do we really want dedicated servers? Towards the end of its lifetime I remember WaW being full of "no sprinting (it's a feature of the game you schmuck), no hip firing, no swearing" bullshit servers. Of course you could argue to find a server that isn't like that but they really start outnumbering the vanilla servers as I recall. Which is why I propose a hybrid.
lesser of two evils
Exaggeration
remember during a MW2 conference, someone asked what sets MW2's PC version apart from the consoles and the only answer was "keyboard and mouse support."
Honestly how is this bad
I'd rather have the games be identical? They had all the usual graphics settings and stuff too
They had dedicated servers for Black Ops 1 and they were fucked for weeks before it became playable.
