Government forecasts 57% of electricity will come from renewable sources by 2027, above 40% target agreed at climate summit. The Indian government has forecast that it will exceed the renewable energy targets set in Paris last year by nearly half and three years ahead of schedule. A draft 10-year energy blueprint published this week predicts India will be generating 57% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2027. The Paris climate accord target was 40% by 2030. Optimistic gains, but I'm cautious -- you'd have to make a lot of solar farms/wind turbines/etc to get that to happen. And those aren't free.
I wonder how it'll feel in 20130 or so when nations like china and india have blown past the usa in innovation
I wonder how it'll feel in 20130 or so when nations like china and india have blown past the usa in innovation
Sounds like everything depends on foreign investors. It will probably benefit China much more and increase their influence in India if their investors get the projects.
India’s energy minister, Piyush Goyal, has been appealing to wealthier nations to provide capital to invest in renewable energy projects to help the country reach and exceed the targets agreed in Paris in November 2015. Significant state investment has not been forthcoming, but Tim Buckley, a director at the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis, said India had made up the shortfall with an influx of capital from the domestic and overseas private sectors in the past 12 months.
And those aren't free.
The PM has a massive solar-energy boner and has been trying to get mass-adoption of the tech, occasionally playing the religious angle as well - The Sun, in Hinduism, is actually a powerful and core piece of religious symbolism, so harnessing its power could sell well to the people. However, another aspect of this is that he wants to use this to spur manufacturing growth locally, which is a problem because the US, in a bid to protect their manufacturers, tried to shut that shit down through the WTO. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out, but witnessing the current government in action, it's mostly been PR Showstopper after PR showstopper to grab headlines (Highway minister offering Hyperloop guys a patch of land to test on, when there's fuck all by way of any proper infrastructure, for example), but very little "boots on the ground" action to back any of it. The recent demonetization move the man did make was and is still catastrophic - people aren't spending money anymore because there's no cash, because the dipshit didn't plan this at all and I have to now stand in a bank for 8 motherfucking hours to take my own money out of the bank, because reasons. So yeah, henceforth just take any news coming out of the country for the next six months with a healthy dose of salt, because it's likely just a PR piece designed to drum up headlines, eyeballs and is the equivalent of "Mission Accomplished" during the elections. They mean nothing, absolutely nothing and with the ADD-addled media that we have, it'll all be forgotten.
I wonder how it'll feel in 20130 or so when nations like china and india have blown past the usa in innovation
i doubt in 20130 there will still be china and india or the usa, unless you meant 2130 and that would be perfectly normal. they won't over take over night and it has happened through out history over and over again.
I think that wealthier nations should fund poorer countries renewable energy projects, its of the benefit of the entire world.
I'd rather a joint-partnership to work and develop better tech together rather than simply funding self-development or supplying. That way, both countries can work jointly on the project, both gain and can also subsidize it for everyone else while also strengthening relationships. India and Russia have been doing this recently for missile development and it's paid great dividends - It'd be nice to have such partnerships exist between countries but for a better cause. Personally, if it wasn't for certain governmental differences, I'd like a super organization dedicated to,say, space and deep sea exploration.
