• Anti-Drug groups being blunt: Nike taking heat for new shirts
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Nike has released a new line of shirts for it's action sports line that is creating a controversy over themes involving drug use. The Beaverton-based Nike said the themes of the shirts have nothing to do with drugs, but drug prevention groups and others disagreed. The t-shirts, being sold at Nike stores in Portland and worldwide, are aimed at snow, skate and surf boarders, and BMX bike riders. One of the shirts simply states “Get High,” referring to elevating off the ground on a bike or a board. But “Get High” can also be connected to smoking marijuana or using other drugs. Oregon Partnership is a non-profit drug and alcohol abuse prevention agency based in Portland. Oregon Partnership is publicly calling on Nike to remove the shirts from store shelves. It points to one t-shirt that says “Dope,” and has a graphic image of a pill bottle with small pill-shaped skateboards coming out of it, as the worst example of a drug message. “To even have a wink at it by having a pill bottle and skateboards that look like pills is just bad thinking,” said Oregon Partnership’s Tom Parker. “I’m shocked that Nike is responding and defending this position.” In a written statement, Nike said “In no way does Nike condone the use of banned or illegal substances. This is about being authentic to action sports. The shirts are part of an action sports campaign, featuring marquee athletes using commonly used and accepted expression of performance at the highest level o f their sport…” But one mother walking by the Nike Town store in Portland with her two teen aged sons didn’t like the shirts, and didn’t think it fit Nike’s image to sell them. “That’s not their image; their image is healthy kids doing sports so I think that it’s not the right image,” said Emily Baker.
Source: http://www.kgw.com/news/Nike-taking-heat-for-new-shirts-124393654.html
Oh come on Everybody in their right mind realizes that the slogan is a play on the drug related "Get High". They shouldn't be sheltering everyone from references to drugs
'Dope' with what looks like a pill bottle and pills, yet they have the brass balls to claim it's not a drug reference... ok? what is it? exactly? what is its symbolism? what is its message? and HOW did you even think of it? I like Nike. :downs: They are good trolls, you'd have to be high out of your god damn mind to think this up and actually say it. Stay classy, Nike :downs:
but drug prevention groups and others disagreed.
Of course they disagree. They're the most absent minded retards in the playing field. But seriously, smoking weed and some people are still getting pissed off about that? I don't think these drug prevention groups should be allowed any sort of substance with mind or body alterting abilities. Regardless if they're good or not. If you're going to preach anti-drugs, might as well start living off just the essential vitamins and minerals. (Which Im sure most of those fat fucks don't take in the first place)
Isn't Oregon one of the most liberal states in regards to drug use?
Isn't Oregon one of the most liberal states in regards to drug use?
They're liberal in everything.
Do these idiots realise that there is such a thing as a natural high?
Do these idiots realise that there is such a thing as a natural high?
Cannabis is natural.

Reminds me, I actually need a couple of new shirts. And now I know what to buy.
unless the shirts say "get intoxicated" i dont see what the problem is for these guys
"I disagree with you and want everybody to look at the world the way I do"
my marks are high*, they must be doing drugs BAN SCHOOL FOREVER *ps they aren't high, they suck
Won't somebody please think of the children. :downs:
Someone needs to lighten up. The world isn't ending because someone made a reference to drugs.
Nike can do what it wants. It's only a shirt for christ's sake.
Someone needs to lighten up.
fuck you, you dirty hippie
Won't somebody please think for the children. :downs:
Fixed that for you buddy
fuck you, you dirty hippie
Completely unintentional, and don't call me a hippie. :colbert:
Cannabis is natural.
:eng99: A natural high is a high without the use of drugs. People get natural highs mostly by playing sports or working out. [editline]1[/editline] Or eating really spicy food.
Inhaling is a natural act, you kinda need to do it to live
What?
I swear to god, I would've guessed the shirts were intended to be an ironic anti-drug message by looking at them. Does everybody just look at the first word or impression of something before immediately forming an opinion and writing complaint letters. Oh wait, yes fat middle-class people do.
Oh come on Everybody in their right mind realizes that the slogan is a play on the drug related "Get High". They shouldn't be sheltering everyone from references to drugs
I have a shirt that says' "I'm a reefer." on it. It's referring to reef fish keeping.
Being "blunt"... GET IT?!?!?! :q:
I believe that was a joke, dear.
I was being deadly serious.
If the consumers care then they will boycott Nike and Nike will be will likely pull the shirts. If the consumers don't care, or not enough care, then Nike has no reason to even consider pulling the shirts because their consumer base is not affected.
Fuck yeah oregon haha. I heard about this on the news, and i smoke pot so im all for it haha
I guess this ad campaign was really... Half baked.
