India is preparing to launch a robotic spacecraft towards the Red Planet - a first for the South Asian country.
The head of India's space agency told the BBC the mission would demonstrate the technological capability to reach Mars orbit and carry out experiments.
The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) will lift off at 09:08 GMT atop an Indian-built rocket from the east coast.
If launch goes well, the spacecraft is set to travel for 300 days and should reach Mars orbit in September 2014.
If the satellite orbits the Red Planet, India's space agency will become the fourth in the world after those of the US, Russia and Europe to undertake a successful Mars mission.
A 56-hour countdown to the launch began on Sunday.
Any streams?
Live on the BBC website. Edited OP to let people know it's there.
1 minute until liftoff!

aaaaaaaaaand, liftoff.
Looks like it went well, wonderful!
Seems like the times to get to Mars is getting shorter, I remember reading that it took 3 years to get there ages ago

It's probably a combination of technology advancing and the planets being better aligned for a journey, considering the Mars year is about double the earth year.

It depends on a lot of things.
Viking 1 (1976) – 335 days
Viking 2 (1976) – 360 days
Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (2006) – 210 days
Phoenix Lander (2008) – 295 days
Curiosity Lander (2012) – 253 days

It only took Mariner 7 131 days to get there.
I also remember reading about the 3 year thing, but I think that was about the length of an entire fictional-mission, which included getting there, staying there, and getting back.
Subtle juxtaposition with the Deepak Chopra ad on the frontier expansion of science..
Also, you posted this 3minutes before launch [0905GMT]; that isn't very helpful for anyone. -.-'

There was a slight hiccup, causing the main engine to fire with too little power and failing to raise the apogee to its intended 100,000 km. But they'll do another burn tomorrow, so it's chill.
