COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — A Danish city has ordered pork to be mandatory on municipal menus, including for schools and daycare centers, with politicians insisting the move is necessary for preserving the country's food traditions and is not an attack on Muslims.
Frank Noergaard, a member of the council in Randers that narrowly approved the decision earlier this week, says it was made to ensure that pork remains "a central part of Denmark's food culture."
Denmark is a major pork producer and it is the most popular meat, but it is forbidden to Muslims and Jews. Most of the asylum-seekers who have arrived in the country in the past months are Muslim.
Noergaard, a member of the anti-immigration, populist Danish People's Party that proposed the council motion, said Thursday that it wasn't meant as a "harassment of Muslims," but added that he had received "several complaints about too many concessions" being made to Muslims in the small, predominantly Lutheran country.
I think it's okay, but enforcing it like this defeats the whole idea of "tradition".

The word I was looking for is protectionism.
Muslim parents are pressuring the schools to ban pork even though they serve other meals.
Danish municipalities are now turning around and then enforcing that pork is mandatory to circumvent the pressure.
Nothing big, really.
thats because denmark isn't willing to give up it's traditions in favor of political correctness

I'm almost certain England leaving the EU would basically start the collapse of it. It's like when the first states seceeded from the US.
But will Muslim clerics get exemption from handling pork in a job?
Assuming some higher power was looking down, I don't imagine it would be pleased that its followers totally missed the point of the banning of certain food and continue to pursue the hollow tradition totally ignorant of the original reasoning.
It made sense once upon a time because certain foods were really likely to give you foodborne illnesses.
If I was responsible for the creation of mankind, and one of the abilities I granted them was critical thinking, I would be relatively displeased when they mindlessly adhered to shit.
Babysitting them tirelessly because of their antiquated viewpoints seems ridiculous.
A lot of countries have laws like these. I know Canada have laws concerning media to help reinforce Canadian Culture. I believe France has a similar one too.
Now this is smart, Its not attacking any group its merely saying that cannot be banned.

some of the muslims at my School claim pork is forbidden because it is a "dirty animal" :goodjob:

In what way? Outside of History PSAs I don't think I've ever seen any.

With the exception that we eventually kicked the Confederacy's ass and forced the states back into the Union. Something the European Union certainly wouldn't do, though.

pretty much this, religious accommodations have been made by not only serving pork but that's not enough
-snip
Still, harmless but still silly.
This is a stupid law. Islamic/Jewish stores shouldn't be forced to serve pork.
Just don't ban it to accommodate muslims.
They're not, but gold star for the effort anyway.

If the creator of the universe wanted to convey a message, why would he choose a book that has to be constantly interpreted and reinterpreted to meet current standards? Why use a book at all? Why not beam the knowledge into everyone's brains so there's no confusion? Why create people who can screw up the big plan in the first place?
It's a fun exercise, but ultimately the whole project of interpretive theology is brain-dead and useless.

That said, I grew up doing part time work on dairy farms and cattle are just as nasty creatures. I recall one particular cow who was called "Dippy" because she would dip her tail in shit and slap it against your arm or back every goddamn day after she was milked. Sometimes she'd just skip the foreplay and shit right on her tail and just throw it everywhere. Cows are halal though, remember that!

From what I remember, radio stations have to play a certain quota of Canadian artists. I read it somewhere in my media studies in college. It's an older law, and it might be phased out by now, so who knows.

Oh okay, I know what you're talking about now. While I'm not sure about radio, it's like that with out TV stations. However, we get so many American channels that I don't notice it.

Pork really isn't much more filthy and disgusting than any other of the filthy and disgusting farm animals available on the roster.
The taboo-ness of pork in religions used to have a purpose but it's become moot in the existence of modern farming practices and medical treatments, and beyond saying "this has pork in it, and this doesn't have pork in it" I don't see what other accommodations would need to be made. All farm animals are filthy and live in filth, it's just what they do, even when they have the option not to.
Pork really isn't much more filthy and disgusting than any other of the filthy and disgusting farm animals available on the roster.
Yes. That is exactly what I said, thank you.
It was all about the Trichinella. Little bastards love pigs and people. (Also other mammal carnivores)
It had a considerable mortality rate through much of human history.
If memory serves, the US has something like ten cases a year with no deaths now. Down from hundreds in the 20th century, which was in turn down from thousands in the 19th century.
pigs tend to shit away from where they sleep at least. they rend to roll around in mud but that's just because they sunburn easy.
Everything has a purpose but Pigs and Goats are pretty amazing when it comes to waste disposal they can pretty much eat anything living, dead or inorganic.

This is so mind boggling, why come to a country and try to change it when they accept you as who you are. Everybody wins if they can just shut the fuck up and accept that Danish people eat pork and they get an alternative meal.
And this is a big problem now, muslim communities "changing" stuff like this. A few years ago they wanted muslim schools in Oslo, WHY? We have 1 "christian school" that is fk old and isnt really "christian" any more, even muslims go there. It was turned down ofc.
This is so mind boggling, why come to a country and try to change it when they accept you as who you are. Everybody wins if they can just shut the fuck up and accept that Danish people eat pork and they get an alternative meal.
Because these are organized and semi-organized groups of people, and they know that if they don't exercise the power they happen to have, they'll lose it. That's why communities like that are always so annoying and constantly nagging, no matter if what they ask is unreasonable, makes no sense or outright impossible.
Honestly, if it gets religious (Muslims, Jews, Christians etc) people out from that city because for whatever reason they refuse to eat pork, I'd move right on in.
some of the muslims at my School claim pork is forbidden because it is a "dirty animal" :goodjob:
Yeah and I don't eat insects.
[editline]22nd January 2016[/editline]
The whole thing is so ridiculous. It started when a Kindergarten took pork off the menu because it has almost exclusively muslim kids.
Why force them to serve something they won't eat anyway?
Even the parents council agreed to it.
Well it's not like they are forcing pork down Muslims throats, more like ensuring that it doesn't get removed from menus.
Says the swede
We recently had an Islamic priest (Imam) saying Muslim children should not attend birthdays.
This is stupid, culture should not be conserved or changed through law.
"Man only honors what he conquers or defends."
If we don't defend our culture and by extension values, Islamic culture and values will take over.
And if we don't defend our culture with law, we will have to defend it with force.
There is no middle-ground, sadly.
Our options are "fight" or surrender.
