• Upgrade/Replace or OC RAM?

Hey there, So basically because of RAM prices going up (The RAM I bought last year for about £38 is now £50), I was wondering/thinking if I should increase my RAM to 16GB to help with the workload when editing and Rendering YouTube videos I make and generally preparing for the future so save myself some money now. So I'm not sure where to go from here, because I don't want to spend £100+ on completely new RAM when my current RAM is working fine. But I don't spend a over the top amount on the same RAM or completely new RAM a year or so later. My specs: (The SSD is for my OS mainly, the Seagates are my main drives) I currently have 2x4GB Corsair DDR3 XMS3 @1333Mhz. To which I am thinking of buying another 2x4GB set, because I do video editing for my YouTube videos. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-(2x4gb)-corsair-ddr3-xms3-pc3-10600-(1333)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-9-9-9-24-150v I think I could go through one of two ways here. Firstly I could upgrade my current RAM to 16GB and possibly Overclock it a bit, maybe to 1600? Though I am completely new when it comes to OCing. If I was going to upgrade and OC then I could maybe bump it up to 1600Mhz through Overclocking? Or even slightly below that maybe? I'm not 100% sure how it works but I am pretty literate when it comes to computers. I have searched multiple websites on how to do it but I do not trust any of them as a decent newbie guide, since most of the guides assume you already know about overclocking. I know my motherboard supports up to speeds of 2133. I know that you have to change some settings in the BIOS, but I don't want to fiddle with them incase I change one number to be too high or low, hence why I am asking for your help. I would greatly appreciate it. Or I could completely replace my RAM and pay a fuck-ton now but essentially save myself having to buy it at a higher price in the future. If so, what RAM would you recommend @1600Mhz or maybe even @2133Mhz that costs under £150. Thanks for the help in advance.
I had 8GB and recently got 32GB. Holy shit it helps SO MUCH in premiere. Overclocking wont give the software more ram so keep that in mind. I would easily recommend getting more ram, after seeing how much Premiere loves it, how much smoother it is. [editline]5th June 2013[/editline] And just go for 1600 ones.
Yeah, I was just looking at ram last night as I too am thinking of upgrading from 6gb to 16gb. Is "gaming" ram really that much better? I don't wanna spend $120 on 4 sticks if it doesn't make a big difference.
"Gaming" anything isn't much different at all from their standard counterparts, usually just prettier or ricey. Just get something basic, it's just as fast.
Nutcake (FP user) showed me some of the "gaming" RAM there is, I think he showed me a 8 or 16gb stick that was €900. Pretty ridiculous. Could anyone give me a good recommendation for 2x4Gb sticks at 1600Mhz or 2133Mhz? I'd want to get 2 sets of 2x4Gb sticks so I can get 16, possibly under the price of £150 overall?
Just some Corsair or Kingston sticks would be good. My sisters video editing rig uses corsair value select, works great. [editline]5th June 2013[/editline] And don't worry about speed, they would be underclocked to the slowest sticks in the PC, and RAM clocks make no noticeable difference anyway.
Just realized that my CPU can only support DDR3-1066, DDR3-1333. Didn't know that the CPU needed to support it as well as the motherboard :S. Seems like I can only go with getting more of my current RAM.

As I said, faster speed wont give your software more RAM, you will not even notice it that much.
Ah that's fair enough then. I'm just going to buy the same RAM then to get my rig up 16GB. Thanks!
