RAF Jets Strike First Targets In Iraq With £130,000 Worth of Firepower - To Destroy A Pick Up Truck
RAF jets have attacked a "heavy weapon position" and an armed pick-up truck in Iraq, the Ministry of Defence has said.
In the first attacks since Parliament approved military action on Friday, two "precision strikes" were launched and both were "successful", the MoD said.
The attacks, by two Tornado jets, were part of an international effort against militant group Islamic State (IS).
A US-led coalition of about 40 nations is trying to destroy IS, which controls large parts of Iraq and Syria.
Kurdish sources said the RAF strikes had helped them retake an "important border crossing" at Rabia near the border with Syria, the BBC's Clive Myrie tweeted.
Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said both Tornados had "returned safely to their base", RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus.
"heavy weapon position" aka a dshk probably
Worth it \/:v:\/
There's no such thing as having too much fun with your job.
Military engagements always are expensive. What did you expect?
£130,000
So basically nothing.
Its okay, UK, you'll figure it out.
The US doesn't use incendiary weapons because they are more effective, they use them because they are cheaaaap! Guidance, who needs guidance when everything is on fire!
Cost goes from tens of thousands to about 500 bucks.
I'm obviously kidding (except about the price. That part is true). Though I will say that if someone could make dumb bombs easier to use, then we could save a shitload.
So basically nothing.
Especially when you consider that the price is for the capability to engage from a low-threat position, rather than having to ship out a large deployment of soldiers to take care of it on foot and constantly at risk.
A jet went over my house today, me and my girlfriend pooped a little, was so loud and unexpected
A jet went over my house today, me and my girlfriend pooped a little, was so loud and unexpected
Yeah if I poop myself I generally don't expect it either.
i knew there was a missile called Hellfire, but Brimstone?
that's nothing short of metal
Is there not any more cheaper alternatives?
Is there not any more cheaper alternatives?
Dropping pamphlets with 'pls stop' on them, should do the trick, well printer ink costs a small fortune too but not 130 grand.

Sounds like OP expects them lob hand grenades out of the cockpit or something to save money
Why are British planes always named after the weather :v:
It's funny because people over here lose their shit when the government spends like £300 flying sick ebola nurses back for treatment.
BUT BUT MUH TAXES
Why are British planes always named after the weather :v:
Because that's cool as fuck.
Why are British planes always named after the weather :v:
Tornado was / is a joint venture between a few of the euro nations, same as the Typhoon.
Light Drizzle is a top secret plane were building though.
Because that's cool as fuck.
Waiting for the RAF Drizzles to go into production
[editline]30th September 2014[/editline]
Damn, ninja'd
I hate to say it, but there's no way that ISIS are returning Alan Henning alive now.
Drizzle is also kinda a neat name.
Why are British planes always named after the weather :v:
The Tornado is a plane made by Germany, Italy and Britain.
I hate to say it, but there's no way that ISIS are returning Alan Henning alive now.
As harsh as it is we can't back off to save the life of one hostage, they give him back probably once we pay them a ransom and then they go back to murdering everyone.
i knew there was a missile called Hellfire, but Brimstone?

It's funny because Brimstone is basically an evolution of the Hellfire.
Why are British planes always named after the weather :v:
Always?
We've lots of planes and the Tornada and Lightning are the only 2 planes that come to mind.

I saw the Typhoon do a low flyby in wales once, it was totally unexpected and it was rad as fuck.
I'm still angry that they discontinued the Harrier
Is there not any more cheaper alternatives?
Guns probably? But the tornado's are hardly ideal for the job, you'd probably fire more than £130k in 27mm and risk crashing the damn thing
Dropping pamphlets with 'pls stop' on them, should do the trick, well printer ink costs a small fortune too but not 130 grand.
Lace it with ebola.
WWII was very expensive to the British taxpayer. Not worth the money in my opinion. Who wanted to fight facism? Not me, that's for sure - I just need a 24/7 GP to help with my arthritis.
The cost of a Javelin missile system would shock you too. I seen a crate of them once, had to be kept in a storage room with a certain temperature and all. precision is expensive nowadays.
