iTunes won't install on Windows Vista. Please help.

Morning Facepunch.
My mam's cousin brought me over one of the new iPods shuffles, the third generation ones and I wanted to get it working on my iTunes-less laptop.
Normally I hate iTunes, always have, I'm a Creative man myself, but anyway, I thought I'd try and install it.
Basically it won't install and I keep getting the error message
there is a problem with this windows installer package
I've tried everything to get it working, I completely removed iTunes and Quicktime (and Bonjour too) and cleaned up my registry and what not, but ANY version of iTunes I try to install just doesn't work, so I'm fairly sure it's something to do with my laptop.
