new academic year new academic(not really) sketchbook thread as a fresh start. still doing game art design n all that jazz. there's a 3D module, a design module, and a contextual studies module. 2D module has been dropped in second year in favour of a "do whatever the fuck you want" module which I'm doing 2D for anyways HERE'S A BLOG there's design stuff and essays on design there too that i'm not gonna post here here's some hand studies and a shopping list in biro a study of a fox a study of some eyes and watercolour stuff and here's something i've actually been asked to do; model a medievally house in a semi-cartoon kinda style [t]http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WrM-yx6R84k/UGr66reL3oI/AAAAAAAAAu8/7wazNLUm438/s1600/IMAG0133.jpg[/t] [t]http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WCj9m1Pe2zA/UGr6-zLLOiI/AAAAAAAAAvI/5KFG-LmlKd0/s1600/houseports.PNG[/t] [t]http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ij2hFJuefbQ/UGr6-ZMTBtI/AAAAAAAAAvE/MOMBRTNKDEE/s1600/houseport.PNG[/t] [t]http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T0pho9cF2LE/UHXwSU5gBfI/AAAAAAAAAwc/ttl7IszxStc/s1600/houserenderwip.jpg[/t] [SUP]baby's first render [/SUP] [t]http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-b-kOHoOb_Gw/UHXwTnVhJbI/AAAAAAAAAwk/JoNyV03iWCc/s1600/houseuv1_wip.jpg[/t] lots of uv mapping and texturing to go [editline]11th October 2012[/editline] ps plan for the year is to chug along with the 3D and design and get through it but it's really not my concern. actually making a real effort with the 2D and getting a portfolio together is my primary thing. my project is to create all the concept work for a sci-fi novel so once i get through that the 2D will pick up in a direction that will actually lead me to a career rather than just being shitty photostudies all the time
i love u chesty
we should make a separate chesty appreciation thread where we post how cool he is
fuk off scrubs
I like that curved roof thing in sketch of the house. I think you should keep it in the model, it makes the house look way more cozy and pleasant to look at. Like that exaggerated architecture of those lovely medieval houses from fairytales, you know.
fuk off scrubs
hes so dreamy

Like that exaggerated architecture of those lovely medieval houses from fairytales, you know.
thank you. i'm gonna apply a mutator editing thingy thing after i've finished texturing it. can't remember what it's called. squash or stretch or something. i can exaggerate the forms and get more curve in the roof with this without it altering the edit-poly or the uvmap
[t]http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rhf851lvPNA/UHfpzfylPGI/AAAAAAAAAxA/FznH5AVCR40/s1600/render2done.jpg[/t] avoiding uvmapping [editline]12th October 2012[/editline] [t]http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6-OWX9ziH3E/UHgFSBPRa2I/AAAAAAAAAxQ/ZFpFQ6KeCn4/s1600/minirender3.jpg[/t]
i like the rendering of the texture but really dont like that there's noise all over some parts of it. doesnt read as anything, are you going to replace it?
i didnt really have a clue how to get any texture into the wattle and daub stuff so i guess that's placeholder for now. maybe a better normalmap will sort it out [editline]12th October 2012[/editline] i've made the grain a bit blurrier now too which is why it looks slightly better in the second picture there. might take that further. the sharpness in the first picture is pretty ugly
No wonder you need medicine with THAT diet

spent far too long on this study for it to be of any real use but oh well i've come this far so i'll finish it off tomorrow [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/studywip.jpg[/t]
u really should turn on shadows in your render. your colors are also really contrasty and the blue and green are so bright that they pollute the rest of the image.
i thought shadows were on. but they're all fucked up and shit. i don't get 3d [editline]16th October 2012[/editline] 3d doesn't get me
I know I've said this before and you've said it's just your preference but I'm still quite sure your work would benefit if you didn't develop elements one at a time rather than switching to and fro and keeping everything up to speed, so the whole piece moves through the stages from start to finish at the same time (I'm prone to doing the same sort of thing, and it's definitely helped when I made efforts not to do it) Like, I don't think you should ever arrive at a point where everything is coloured and fleshed out to a reasonable degree but the one guy has no head at all
yeehhhh i was just scared of doing his head and messing up the likeness. everything else was blocked out and the head is literally the last thing left to do hah. it's silly i know spent way too long on the study anyways. started out as me saying "gonna do this in an hour!! gottagofast" and now it's been 3 hours gonna try and do some 10 minute landscape studies today and gesture studies to make up for it
Weren't those ones from Lord of the Rings and District 9 hour long studies? They were well nice And didn't have crappy vignettes on them neither :v:
yeh they were an hour i think fucked off the looper thing did these instead 30 mins each i think
Second one looks great albeit compositionally dodgy
i'll inform the photographer!!

That house, dam that thing is awesome! The motion in the last on you posted is really nice as well, I need to have a look into how this is done.
imported a more complete version of that level design shit into max and rendered it out. horribly washed out but interesting exercise anyways [t]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--NgiucVOlcA/UIghdP_6CsI/AAAAAAAAA18/kCd_PiG07Bc/s1600/designwip2.jpg[/t]
