-Helen Placke, 74, was trapped in closet after door handle fell off
-Major disaster declaration issued for Kentucky after 23 people were killed
Authorities in the U.S. believe an elderly woman sought refuge in a cupboard after storms passed through Kentucky last week but died after the door handle fell off, trapping her inside for days.
Police officers found the body of 74-year-old Helen Placke under blankets inside the bedroom cupboard of her home.
Local reports say the woman apparently shook the door hard enough for the handle to come apart.
Coroner Richard New said Ms Placke died of natural causes.
He said if she had been able to get water and her medication, she likely would not have died.
Placke, a retired school cafeteria worker, had no living children.
Twin sons died at birth in 1976, said her niece Sharon Sloan. She said Placke doted on her nieces and nephews.
'She was a special person,' Sloan said.
State officials said that 23 people died after the weekends storms.
Gov. Steve Beshear and Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson yesterday toured several tornado-ravaged areas of the state, a day after President Barack Obama issued a major disaster declaration for Kentucky.
The dynamically charged nature of Friday's atmosphere created an ideal environment for producing long-track, devastating tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.
Officials from the weather service identified at least 45 separate tornadoes in last week's deadly outbreak across the Midwest and South. The unusually severe storm system affected millions of people in 10 states, officials said.
The EF-3 tornado that struck the small town of West Liberty, Kentucky, packed winds of 140 mph and stuck to the earth for 95 miles - 60 miles in Kentucky and 35 miles into West Virginia.
The twister left normally tranquil West Liberty looking like 'a war zone,' Kentucky Gov. Beshear told reporters.
National Guard troops helped the town comb through debris while authorities investigated storm fatalities.
'In all the years I've been coroner, I've never seen bodies in the condition they're in,' said Raymond Van Cleave, the coroner for Morgan County, Kentucky.

I think I'd have rather been tossed about to death by the tornado
Both of her sons died at birth? That's tragic. Poor woman :(

Hence why he said "sorry"
oops
That doesn't sound like the best life... being a lunch lady, having your twin sons die at birth, and then eventually starving to death in a closet after a tornado.

laughed heartily.

You dick.
But yeah, I would rather just get bashed around I think then be stuck in a fucking cupboard til death.
In preparation for a disaster you should have food and water and other necessities in where you plan to shelter, as you can be trapped very easily by debris and something like this could happen.
It's unfortunate that she survived the storm undamaged just to pass from being trapped in her shelter, but simple preparedness can save you from the worst case scenario.
Only if I went back in time and rescued her... Poor woman...

The fuck are you on
It's terrible that so many people, like this poor woman, are terrified to come out of the closet because of TEAPUBLICANS LIKE SANTORUM
