Late last week, officials from Wall Township, New Jersey announced they'd discovered that a male fifth grader had a hit list of 40 classmates he'd fantasized about killing in a mass-casualty attack. Authorities say they don't think the 11-year-old could've carried out the elaborate plot, but still plan to file unspecified charges against the juvenile.
Last April, Central School staff found a note the elementary-schooler had written, vaguely detailing violent threats against classmates, and notified law enforcement. In a subsequent investigation that continued through the summer, police seized a computer from the child's home and found a more developed list of targets, a few of whom were celebrities.
Wall Township Police Lieutenant John Brockriede described the plot to Patch as “similar to a Columbine or Newtown" scheme, one the kid was unlikely to be able to execute. “We believe it was more of a fantasy-type thing he had,’’ the lieutenant also said. “Not something he was capable of actually carrying out.’’ A family member of the 11-year-old reportedly does own weapons, but the child never has had access to them.
A fifth-grader that is even mentally capable of killing that many people is quite a concern.
the real issue here is that they're going to charge a 10 year old for a crime he wouldn't have been able to commit in the first place.
justice!

There's no indication that he is capable of doing it; he merely considered it.
More heavily than is comforting, but nevertheless.

Somehow I doubt they're gonna charge him with attempted murder or anything.

They should charge him and put him in some place he can get help.

The real issue here is that circumstanced had occured that made a 5th grader plan to kill 40 fellow children.
A fifth-grader that is even mentally capable of killing that many people is quite a concern.
Fantasizing about doing something is very different from actually being mentally capable to do it.
The real issue here is that circumstanced had occured that made a 5th grader plan to kill 40 fellow children.
I think it's harmless. Most of those kids were probably bullying him and if you've ever been bullied, you'd completely understand the homicidal thoughts.
Having plans to kill 40 people is not harmless, and certainly isn't normal even if you've been bullied.
Can you honestly think that he was actually going to do it.
Having plans to kill 40 people is not harmless, and certainly isn't normal even if you've been bullied.
Tell me this, do you think it is okay to fantasize about killing the little prick that has bullied you all your life?
Fantasizing about doing something is very different from actually being mentally capable to do it.
Being mentally capable is what I mean.
And that's why I said it would be concerning.
Does it matter if he was going to do it or not?
Planning to kill someone is not normal under any circumstances, planning to kill 40 people means you have serious issues.

No, maybe beat the shit out of him but not kill him.
Then you obviously don't understand.
Honestly who didn't keep a kill list of your top 10 or 40-50 at least once in your life?
No I do understand, what you need to do is go see a therapist immediately.
Not everyone with homicidal thoughts needs to visit a therapist. Otherwise 90% of the population would be in a psych ward for fantasizing about killing their bosses.

I never did but there were some assholes in around 5th/6th grade that I wouldn't have minded if they got hit by a truck on the way to school.
Not everyone has homicidal thoughts in the first place.
Fantasizing.. really? The way you word this stuff makes you sound messed up in the head.
Good thing I don't have a boss then.
reading this thread is giving me some homicidal thoughts

What about that guy that went to the mall and posted on 4chan that he was going to go out in style?

I thought that he didn't even get on the scoreboard because he didn't do it.
Also with regard to the title, is that in reference to Seung-Hui Cho? Because just off the top of my head the Port Arthur Massacre had a higher number of victims.
Not in the US I guess though.

The scoreboard only includes US shootings. I believe there was one in some Asian country a couple years back that was awful.
i didnt know who cho was at first and though that some kid was going to beat the japanese guy in a hot dog contest
nice
i always planned on killing my english teacher but i never did

Breivik etc don't count because the weren't school shootings
I did this, and wrote up plans and everything when I was in school and was being bullied.
I had no real intention of doing it, but it was a nice thing to think about, and was a comfort device.
40 children? Justin beiber must have been one of them then.

Yep. He menacingly fantasizes while sat behind his PC, giggling like Hannibal Lecter and clicking his fingers, waiting for the day he can arise from the underminer, from the underclass and downtrodden, and arise as the sole slayer of man and everything beyond, the world is not enough for Alex_DeLarge, he wants nothing more than total annihilation and carnage, homicide and pain for all man and he must be stopped.
That, or he's fucking human.
