That's pretty cool, and they've finally corrected the oversight the HD collection has and put MGS1 in there.
I still think it would be better if this was released on 360 though. So, y'know, I could play MGS4.

It would be impossible, the way MGS4 was built makes it very difficult to port. And MGS1 is just the emulated .iso of the game on the ps3's ps1 emulator.

Also there's a really awkward codec in the game about how the PS3 has superior hardware, which while they could take it out, might end up with an even bigger awkward codec to replace it.

I just remember the codec where Otacon asks you to switch the CD, but then he remembers, that the player is using a PS3 system with BluRay technology, therefore, he doesn't have to switch.
Or was there something else?

No, port the game and leave it there
that would be funny

Leave it in and change it up.
"Snake, don't worry about changing disks, we have blura- Oh right, you're on the Xbox 360 console! ... Sorry Snake, you're going to have to fish out that second disk."
Wow, never would have thought people would struggle with the MGS series. Yeah, the camera is funky, but the controls aren't bad. The games are a bit difficult by nature, but most people over come this. I know I did. Really didn't take me long to adjust when I started the older games.
Did they find out about DSP's playthrough?

make it 3 disk's so when they put in the 2nd disk it's just there to say say Sorry again Snake you to put Disk 3 in
it'd be funny but most likey a waste of a disk so just make them go back to disk 1 sometimes a joke

I bet a game built specifically for the PS3's weird ass processor would be hell to port, and probably wouldn't be commercially worth it. Oh well, I can dream.

TBF MGS breaks the fourth wall all over the place, I don't think it would matter much. And AFAIK the 'oh wait no we're on the PS3, you don't need to change disks! lol, imagine not using blu ray in this day and age' codec is tempered somewhat by you needing to install each act of the game individually and not being able to have more than one act on the HDD at a time, taking the minor inconvenience of having to change disks and multiplying it by 1000.

They're pretty hard to adjust to even if you're coming from another game in the same series. I personally played through MGS1 and got decent at it then when I started MGS2 I was running around like a retard again. Don't see the point in having two games in your boxset then encouraging players to not play them and instead just watch a plot synopsis though.

They released a patch though that lets you install it all in one go, so that isn't as much of a problem anymore.
Oh they did? That's cool, I've never played it and got all my info from 4 year old webpages :').

The MGS controls are very weird for people who normally don't play the game. You can't move while crouched and the square button for fire is really awkward, especially because it is really hard to slightly hold down the button and when you do get to that point it is really hard to stow away your weapon so you are sometimes forced to fire your weapon. Also the wall hugging is pretty terrible, its very hard to move up against a wall and then move diagonally and then stop, especially if you are at the weird camera angle. This might be me just bitchin but when I first started out with the series it was really hard to control. Also O is the 'okay' button
-wait snip-
Also O is the 'okay' button
Was. iirc it was changed to X in MGS4 and for the HD collection.

Third disc :v: They would probably have to change per act.
Third disc :v: They would probably have to change per act.
That's pretty logical and tbh wouldn't be too much hassle considering it's a linear game
My PS1 broke after I beat Liquid in the hind :(
I'm looking forward to this so I can finally get around to playing all the MGS games but I dislike the idea of having to play through the parts of MGS1 I've already beat.
You know, as someone who has always considered myself a Stealth player, I should probably pick this up and actually play one of the progenitors of the genre for once.
Never was able to get into the MGS series.
Crappy, outdated stealth and cutscenes that literally take up around 60-70% of the game -- no thanks. Plus the story is a bunch of campy nonsense, which, while enjoyable in a silly way, is not something I'm happy to sit through hours of cutscenes for.

I've been playing MGS3 again (the original one) on the PS2, and good god is the camera shit compared to the HD/MGS4 camera.
Half of the alerts I get are because I couldn't see someone due to the camera only showing what's going on from one locked angle.

First, crappy and outdated stealth? What?
Second, the cutscenes only take up 60-70% of the game in MGS4.

Give me an example of non crappy up to date stealth (if you give me invisibility cloak shit, I'll get arrested for saying online that I'm gonna shoot someone!)

The earlier Splinter Cell games weren't awful from what I remember.
But MGS really did define third person stealth action games. It set a benchmark, and other games did better fairly quickly, but it always improved on the formula that worked for it.
MGS4 was an amazing stealth game.

Ok I'll admit the controls are actually a bit quirky. I remember when I started MGS1 up again for the first time after a good few years, I couldn't start a new game because I forgot I had to press O to continue. I don't like how they alter the controls between games to a degree either. MGS4 had the holy grail of controls though.
I always hated how no one really mentions how dated the MGS3 controls were.
Another Problem with porting MGS4 to the 360 is the amount of apple products in it. Not a good look.

All I remember from Splinter Cell is the "pipe in the ceiling grabbing" which was something I wanted in MGS, nothing else. Haven't played it enough to know.

They were pretty fine for me.
I may get a screen wrong and press X instead of O, but I got used to them.
