• Ebay and video cards

Hey guys, Looking to upgrade my system (specs below), and I'm going for the core components this time around. I found an MSI 280x Twin Frozr (I think, anyway. Is there an actual difference?) on egay within my price range, and it's got an as-of-yet unregistered three year manufacturer's warranty. It's been used for three months mining at stock clock and whatever "13/20 intensity" means, never broke 80 deg C. Think it's worth it? Current system: 965 BE/H212 Evo GA 970 AM3+ XFX 6850 TX 8GB DDR3 1600MHz 630w PSU I'm also looking at an 8350 - I've heard mixed opinions on whether or not I'll need to bump up to a Corsair H60 liquid cooler, or whether I'll be fine with the H212. Thoughts? Thanks.
I got my card on ebay. Just make sure it's from a reputable seller. And the h60 really won't cool any better than the h212. You're better off picking up a second fan for it
Thanks. I'll hold off on buying the H60 to test the 212. One last question: In the long run, would it be significantly more beneficial to spend ~$120 more on an MSI 290x (warrantied till 2017) versus the 280x? [editline]21st August 2014[/editline] I should clarify my monitor maxes at 1600x900, and I usually don't play full screen. [editline]21st August 2014[/editline] nevermind, fuck that ridiculous power consumption of the 290x
Anything above the 280x would be way overkill for that resolution. If you do want more power though check out the r9 290. It was pretty much the second most popular mining card so there are a lot out there
Last (again) question: I've narrowed my choices down to Gigabyte, for the easy overclock/auto voltage and triple fan set up, and Asus, for the quieter system and apparently excellent warranty support. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125490&cm_re=gigabyte_280x-_-14-125-490-_-Product http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121803&cm_re=asus_280x-_-14-121-803-_-Product Those two cards. Anyone have any input on them? I've heard great things about this Asus card, but reviews seems to be either five stars or one star.
Who on earth told you ASUS has excellent warranty support? They're awful. I'd suggest the sapphire model. It's got excellent cooling, stock over clock, and warranty
Really? I saw a screenshot of tech support, apparently they'll replace video cards even if you've modified them and such, so long as there's no intentional damage to the card.
They're god awful and send you in loops and loops. Trust me, I have to deal with them a couple times a month. And that's as a professional, they're even worse as an end user.
Huh. That's unfortunate. As a professional, which brands are your 'favorites'?
I disagree with Levelog. His personal negative experiance doesn't represent ASUS's RMA services as a whole or everyone else's experiance with them. I've RMA'd several items with Asus in the past and they've always been quite fast and painless for me. Asus is an absolute top tierd brand for computer hardwares and its completely fine to go for their product. However if you can afford it, buy eVGA. Their cards are generally more expensive for a reason, because they always use the top quality parts and GPUs with top quality binning.
Get a 7970, same card and significantly cheaper onebay

Many people have had tons of problems with them. They make great hardware, but just hope it doesn't break
Get a 7970, same card and significantly cheaper onebay
I considered it, but the 280x cards are generally still under warranty whereas the 7970 aren't always.
Really? Ask on sipwickett too. Many people have had tons of problems with them. I checked on Amazon - there's a Gigabyte windforce revision 2 going for $206 and under warranty still, and an Asus DCII Top V1 that's supposedly only been used for a month going for roughly the same price. Considering the Gigabyte is locked to auto-voltage (not something I really mind) and also considering the various sound and cooling differences, which would you guys personally go for?
Got bored, somehow ended up ordering a BNIB Sapphire tri-X OC 290x for $460. Whoops? [editline]22nd August 2014[/editline] muh merge
