Counter Strike Go to have cross platform gameplay between PS3 and PC/Mac.
Valve’s doubling down on the PlayStation 3. In a preview published late Thursday, Kotaku’s Stephen Totilo reported that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the newest iteration of the popular Counter-Strike franchise, will feature cross-platform play between PS3 and PC/Mac players.
Though players can create endless loops of de_dust on their own private servers, Valve will be running official servers for skill-based matchmaking. PC, Mac, and PS3 users will be matched up regardless of platform. Xbox 360 players will be confined to matches with other 360 owners. How Valve will balance play between users on keyboard and mouse versus players using a gamepad or PlayStation Move (which the PS3 version will support) remains to be seen.
Despite CEO Gabe Newell’s previous dismissal of the PS3, Valve is showing strong support for Sony’s platform, citing the openness of its publication model with respect to Microsoft’s. Portal 2, released this April, allowed for cross-platform play between PS3 and PC/Mac, and the PS3 version came with a code for Portal 2 on Steam.
Counter-Strike: GO, announced two weeks ago, looks to be a marriage of beloved shooting tradition with the newest Source engine tech. Those attending PAX this weekend can see what Kotaku saw for themselves, and Counter-Strike veterans looking for in-depth coverage would do well to read Craig Torbull’s comparision of CS: GO to its predecessors over at ESEA News.
Yay is all I have to say
Wonder what their reasons are for this.

Because Valve likes to bring everybody together.
I disagree as Im a PC fanboy.

Because it'll create a gigantic playerbase.
And more opportunities for microtransactions.
I'm going to feel sorry for PS3 players, they're going to get constantly killed from headshots.
How the fuck are they going to manage the KBM versus controller? That's been tried before, it didn't work.
Guys:
You can use mouse and keyboard on the PS3 version.
Nice... now I can shut up my console friends that say "LOL CONTROLLERS ARE BETTER"
counter strike go looks bad
I wonder if it can use custom content on it. Unreal tournament 3 had it so I can't see why not.

yeah that terrible gameplay they never released looks AWFUL
Hopefully Valve plays their cards right. They can run a high risk of getting a lot of whiplash from the community and most of us know how [insert 12 year old pun/joke/insult/etc] they can be.
I can say though, that no one wants to "dumb down" for anyone else.

Well fuck.

That was my first though when I saw the article title, "How the fuck are they going to balance this". I tried playing counter-strike once with a controller and it was like facing down an army of special ops with a butter knife
If they really wanna make it fair, they would take the loads of auto aim for console versions out.

actually they did release footage and it looks terrible.

How does it look terrible?

Wait what? Where?
How will server mods and custom maps work with the PS3?
Looks fine to me.
How will server mods and custom maps work with the PS3?
they won't.
It's surprising how valve went from " lol ps3" to loving it more than the 360
360 will probably still sell more since ps3 gamers are less fps players
Wait are you saying I can actually get kills now?
For the first time EVER this will happen.

pff ever played Halo 3 on the higher tiers?
it's difficult to not throw your controller when you get shot in the head the second you spawn
I think it'd make sense if PS3 and Xbox 360 could play together, rather than PC and PS3
