Hey Facepunch,
I recently ran into $208.72, and I was wondering--what motherboard should I get? I've been going part by part, and I had a thread all made up a few weeks ago, but there might be different, more current, motherboards released, and I was wondering what I should get. I already have a case and an OS, so if you can find a little extra money in there (if the motherboard is the best bang for its buck), try to fit something else in there, such as RAM or maybe a OD.

I also live in the United States. And yes, I do want a Sandy Bridge mobo.

and I need this A.S.A.P.
I strongly recommend against building a PC part-by-part, in the world of computer hardware, technology becomes outdated quickly, and prices are constantly dropping. Wait until you have a few hundred, and buy it all at once.

Alas, I have to. I won't be running into a large amount of money anytime soon. I'm hoping to have the whole build finished by July.

Sandy bridge is also fairly new. I'm not looking for anything top of the line, so if it does come out, I probably wouldn't get it anyway.
No, you don't have to. Hold on to your money, buying it part-by-part is really just a waste of cash.

And as you mentioned you made a thread a few weeks ago, and now you're expecting a new motherboard? Think of what you'll be able to find a few months from now.
Why is it so urgent you buy parts now?

Still not worth it. Get it all at once. Unless there is a deal or sale on a part that is.

Because I need a computer. I'm using the libarys and I won't be able to keep going here every day to do work and 'play games'.
what's the difference between say, spending $700 over 3 months and spending $700 at once 3 months later?
You'll get more for your money at July too
[editline]wef[/editline]
Ok, I see your reason, but you still need a motherboard/CPU/GPU (unless you go H67)/RAM to get yourself a basic functioning computer, and even at that you'll have to shell out at least ~$400-500
Fine, whatever. I'll make a thread once I run into enough money to complete a build.
Wait, how much money should I save up if I want to have a mid-high gaming build? I also need a monitor.
(again, I already have a case, an OS, and 208.72 dollars.)
oh shit, ninja'd
Put it in the bank and save it until you have about 800 and build the PC, prices change and it's a really stupid idea to buy one part at a time. Having a piece or two before another piece isn't going to benefit you at all, it will likely be more harmful - once you actually get all the parts and can put it together you might discover that the first part you've bought is DoA, and then you'd have to RMA and the store won't take it anymore so you have to wait for slow manufacturers to take it and ship you a new one. Not only that, but you'll most likely save more money buying it all together anyways, because prices drop and combo deals.

Smart idea. I can just let it increase while it's in the bank and eventually, including money I make doing jobs, I'll have enough.

mid-high gaming build IMO is a 2500K / 6950 1GB
I think you can get yourself that for ~$800 right now so I guess that's your goal
Add a monitor for an extra $100-150
