Nintendo began as a playing card company in 1889 but it was the transition into video games in the '70s that earned it the worldwide recognition it has today. Technically, Nintendo's 125th anniversary doesn't start until tomorrow for us here in the US, but since it's already September 23 in Japan, we thought we'd kick off the congratulations a little early. What's your earliest/best Nintendo memory? For me, it was going over to a friend's house to play through the original Metroid on NES. We slowly worked our way together through the game's labyrinth's, not using guides and way before walkthrough videos. At the time, it was intense, scary, and one of the reasons that Mother Brain still freaks me out.
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/happy-birthday-nintendo-company-turns-125/1100-6422491/
Happy birthday!
Damn, I forgot they did the trading card thing for so long. Here's to several other more years for them!
I remember waiting outside a Best Buy parking lot in the early 2000s and seeing my dad walk out with a brand new Gamecube complete with Super Mario Sunshine and Animal Crossing. Both games got lots of playtime and we kept our library growing strong. Thanks for your square baby, Nintendo!
I remember getting Zelda games for Christmas whenever they came out, and just Nintendo games in general. Thank you Nintendo for all the great and wholesome game experiences, through your games I've had great experiences with friends, family, and even made new friends. I do truly believe that there's something tangibly special about Nintendo games, and I continue to be a huge fan. Happy birthday Nintendo!
Nintendo will always be my favorite video game company.
It's amusing to think that a number of those 125 years the company was around, it ventured into love hotels.
One of my earliest memories would probably be playing Pokemon Yellow on GBC, my save data got corrupted and when I was at the load menu, there wasn't an option to select continue so I thought Team Rocket took over the world and it was game over and that's why I had to start again.
Raising nerds around the world, have a good one Nintendo!
Still the only company who makes the greatest local multiplayer games. Our parties wouldn't be the same without Nintendo!

Nintendo will always be the best. [sp]Thanks for making my (and tons more people's) childhood amazing, Nintendo.[/sp]
I didnt know Nintendo was that old
My Nintendo childhood consisted of being so fucking jealous of all my mates that had an N64. And I still dont have one...
I still remember when I got the SNES on launch, parents set it up for me with super mario world playing the start screen when I came downstairs that morning. Also I've dated myself again :(

My fondest memories though are playing Banjo-Kazooie, Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye with friends. Happy birthday, Nintendo. You were a big part of my childhood and I hope you'll still be around for my children to enjoy.
Yep. I made that timeline earlier this year in celebration of today, after missing out on doing anything for their 120th. [t]http://i.imgur.com/SeN1HcG.png[/t]
I had no idea they made cards, was expecting something like badage boys
Nintendo, doomed since 1889. Here's to them making another 100 years!
It's amusing to think that a number of those 125 years the company was around, it ventured into love hotels.
I forgot that was a thing. And I looked it up and look at how much shit has to be censored: [t]http://www.gamnesia.com/images/uploads/love_hotels_640_09.jpg[/t] imagine the uproar if this became more well known holy shit
125 years of doing nothing but re-releasing the same bloody Mario and Zelda games on every console. When will they fucking start innovating?
125 years of doing nothing but re-releasing the same bloody Mario and Zelda games on every console. When will they fucking start innovating?
they really changed the game with the super mario game that came out in 1897 tho
125 years of doing nothing but re-releasing the same bloody Mario and Zelda games on every console. When will they fucking start innovating?
I honestly can't tell if this is Poe's law in effect.
It's also been 125 years since the last Metroid game.
125 years of doing nothing but re-releasing the same bloody Mario and Zelda games on every console. When will they fucking start innovating?
People who say dumb shit like this have never played a Nintendo game in their life.
How could you possibly take my post seriously?
Congrats Nintendo. Without you, gaming might have been pretty much dead since the early 80's
How could you possibly take my post seriously?
sarcasm's pretty hard to read. relevant
