Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy are in negotiations to join “Saturday Night Live” cast members Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in the film, an individual with knowledge tells TheWrap, with Paul Feig (“Bridesmaids”) attached to direct.
Source Man, my interest in this reboot went from 10% to a solid 80% with this news. McKinnon, Jones and Wiig are some of the funniest people from SNL's recent years. McCarthy might be the weak link here, though.
It won't be the same. New female or male cast.
Why
pls no
Another movie with Melissa McCarthy being unfunny
Mandatory black member to not create a political correctness shitstorm.
Another movie with Melissa McCarthy being unfunny
Yeah, but the three other cast members are, like, really funny. Kate McKinnon has been a great source of jokes in SNL for the past few years and Jones is doing great in her first year. Kristen Wiig is funny in the right role, and if they cast her as the Venkman on the group this might be pretty good. Remind me how many lines Winston actually has?
Why
$$$
It's going to be horrible, I probably won't even go to see it.
I sense a lot of awkward forced humor in this
"I love origin stories. That's my favorite thing. I love the first one so much I don't want to do anything to ruin the memory of that," Feig said.
Too late.

You could cast the universe's funniest leads but if the premise is shit it's still not going to work Pair this with a director who has yet to make a good movie and I'm not going to get my hopes up
How many period jokes
Melissa McCarthy is like the Tyler Perry to fat women.
Mandatory black member to not create a political correctness shitstorm.
the original ghostbusters also had a black member
Melissa McCarthy is like the Tyler Perry to fat women.
You say that yet Tyler Perry was pretty good in Gone Girl.
Why all female cast though? Cant there be a mix?
Conceptually I don't mind this. How many female cast remakes have there been? It's still going to suck though
What's next, a Back to the Future sequel featuring Mary Mcfly and Dr. Emma Brown?
It won't be the same. New female or male cast.
I don't think they can make another Ghost Busters movie in the same way that I don't think they can make another Gremlins movie. Either people forgot, or are not allowed to make the 80s kind of monster movie.
i wouldn't be surprised if this actually bombs in the box office.
so progressive
How about no? Let's not make this. At all.
Why all female cast though? Cant there be a mix?
"Why all male cast though? Cant there be a mix?"
i wouldn't be surprised if this actually bombs in the box office.
name/brand means it will turn a profit no matter what
A reboot nobody asked for
What is the actual point of this apart from trying to make money? If they are going to go with "How wacky, it's the Ghost Busters but they are all women, and it's going to be all 'women jokes'" then it's going to be god awful. If they are going to play it straight as Ghost Busters then didn't they already do that with Ghost Busters? It's like if they remade the Indiana Jones Trilogy except all they did was make Indiana Jones female. What is the purpose of it?
fuck this shit lmao
I really don't see a problem with this. If they do a good job, great: we get a funny movie to watch in a couple of years. If they do a bad job, also fine. Just another movie to throw onto the ever-growing pile of shitty, ham-fisted remakes. It's not like we've never seen one of those before so why get all up-in-arms about it now? They're taking all the risks here and we're the ones who may or may not benefit. Let them reap what they sow.
