A friend of mine is thinking about upgrading his PC. While there's nothing really wrong with it, he finds his framerate to be lacking in games like Deus Ex: HR. Thus I suggested he'd get a 6950. I'm not COMPLETELY sure about this though. Is it really worth it? I've tried using google, but I can't find a definite answer.
He's got 4 gigabytes of RAM, and an AMD Phenom II X4 955. Will the performance boost be big enough to be worth it?

I just noticed it would've been way better if I just posted this in the "The Quick Questions that does not Deserve a Thread" thread.
Nope, not really.
Your friend probably doesn't have 2 PCIe slots, but:

I'm curious as to how he's lagging in DX:HR with a 460. I have the same specs, same processor, same GPU, same RAM, and I run it at VERY comfortable FPS.

I don't have options like DOF turned on but I ran it at 60fps most of the time at 1920x1080 on my GTX 260. I would think he paired a 460 with a WQXGA monitor or something to get performance that bad.
I think it's something else that's slowing his PC down, cause my PC is actually slightly worse and I get a perfect FPS in Deus Ex with everything on max.

The GTX 260 doesn't support Direct X 11, though.

Yeah, but the GTX 460 should run it pretty decently anyway. I'm on 1680x1050 and with Vsync on (of course) I'm maxing out at the 60FPS pretty much all the time. According to this I'm a good deal more than 60FPS, so his GTX 460 (which performs *pretty* much the same as 6870, maybe a little closer to the 6850) should still be pretty respectable.

That's completely irrelevant. Deus Ex HR barely uses any DX11 features, and the ones implemented are seldom used. Tessellation for instance is only used on character models.
He should be getting fine performance.

A stock GTX 460 1GB at 1680x1050 gets 56fps at maximum settings.
Very odd, seeing as he seldom get above 40 FPS.

Just found out he forces 16x AA through the Nvidia Control Panel. :v:

Oh wow.

Yeah, that might do it.
No, 6990 though, Heck yeah.
