i went to bed at 11 Pm. i lay down and start to dream. i wasn't quite asleep yet. i was having lucid thoughts still. all of a sudden. somethings happens suddenly in my dream. a guy was walking in the background, then he all of a sudden flips on his head. i spasm for a second before i sit up. frightened. what the hell? i got frightened over that? is this normal. i look at it now. and it doesn't give me any fright.
explanation?
It's normal, happens to me sometimes.
Its normal at least that's what i think
is normal, happens to me. When you are that tired, you imagine things and they seem real. Happens lots when i imagined tripping and suddenly spasm as i stopped myself from falling, as such.
If by that you mean you jerk randomly when you're trying to get to sleep, I have that sometimes as well.
Oh god punctuation everywhere but none in the right spot.
My girlfriend get those random jerks constantly when she's falling asleep, it's normal apparently

He's Ernest Hemingway!
yeah dude it happens all the time. its when your body is slipping into a different sleep level/pattern. I think its REM to 1 but i might be wrong.
When I am in school I will sleep for maybe 10 mins and then shack violently for a second before waking up from a bad dream. I do it every time I am in school.
I've heard there's some type of chemical your body releases which prevents you from moving while dreaming. Perhaps these jerks are a result of that chemical not being fully absorbed, leaving you open to movements normally suppressed. Of course, this is just what I've heard in the past.
I'm always like "what the fuck did I just do" when this happens.

REM = Rapid Eye Movement
Happens in when you're in deep sleep or whatever you call it.

This, it always happens to me, the last time it happened someone throw a football at me in the dream and I spazzed out and ended up slapping myself. :ohdear:
My boyfriend sometimes tells me I twitch in this state, apparently he thinks it's normal...
Yeah, this is normal. Especially annoying though when you're trying to take a nap during class and you have to try and play off your mini seizure as stretching or readjusting your seat.
I woke up screaming at about 3am today because my leg was in great agony.
Just a cramp.
It was fucking annoying
I get these, say if im in a Dream state and i fall or get hit or something i get fully awake and spasm , it makes me shit brix ! :v:

hmm?
When this happens to me I always feel stupid afterwards
"Man...getting scared and awakened by something in a dream..get a grip *turns on other side and falls asleep*"
When this happens to me I start thinking deeply about what caused it, then somehow I end up thinking about the circulatory system. Then somehow I think about the various applications of Leucocytes, after which I end up pondering about the origin of the universe.
I don't sleep much.
Sometimes I dream I fall off something or trip over or something, and I roll onto my side and wake up.

:iiam:
Oh god this happens all the time in my classes. I fall half asleep, and am daydreaming, but if I fall or if something hits me in my daydreaming, I have a 1 second mini seizure and it's fucking awkward with everybody staring at me.
Yup, perfectly normal, everyone should have it, its an ancestrial pattern in our DNA or something, from when we were monkeys!, They sleep in trees and when they fall they spasm to grab a branch, so sometimes we have weird dreams relating to this kind of pattern, i myself have a common one where i'm watching someone play golf and they swing the club, as soon as it hits the ball i hear a loud noise in my head and i spasm, should only ever happen as your falling asleep, if you get that kinda shit in the middle of sleep, its gonna be something like a nightmare
I sometimes kick randomly. I guess its normal.
@Nat562
Yer I have a similar one where I imagine I am kicking a football, even though I hate football its the same dream kinda thing every time.

Spasms usually occur while you are undergoing hypnagogic imagery and before your body releases melatonin.
Of course, it is natural to spasm sometimes when waking too suddenly from Stage I of sleep.
Also, why is there an abundance in sleep related threads now?

Cause the cold seasons are coming.
Behold : I know the name of this effect!

It happened to me last night. It's annoying.
Happens to me often, just as I am on the brink of falling asleep. I remember once being in a semi-awake state while laying on my back in my bed, dreaming that I was twirling an extended pocket knife in my hands. I suddenly dropped it blade facing downwards, and just as the knife penetrated my gut I jerked violently and woke up.
Feels pretty strange.
