The fantasy, combat, role-playing trilogy, first launched in 2007, comes to an end with a new addendum to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a slice of DLC called Blood and Wine, due out on May 31. It's the second expansion for The Witcher 3, following Hearts of Stone, released in October 2015. But while that addition ran for around 10 hours, this one has a bigger narrative element and a longer running time (between 20 and 30 hours) as well as some gameplay changes.
http://www.polygon.com/features/2016/5/10/11604568/the-witcher-3-blood-and-wine-gameplay

Jesus christ I haven't even finished the vanilla game [editline]10th May 2016[/editline] To think there's another 30-40 hours of content, that's insanity
Can't tell you how much seeing both a "RATED M" list a mile long and then an award list even longer brings a smile to my face. Good to see at least one company refuses to cave to bandwagon bullshit. [editline]10th May 2016[/editline]
Jesus christ I haven't even finished the vanilla game [editline]10th May 2016[/editline] To think there's another 30-40 hours of content, that's insanity
Well the good news is you're supposed to play this and after you play that, and it also comes with a serious optimization patch that doesn't downgrade anything. More companies should take note.
I don't care how many awards this game gets. I'll always hate it for being the reason my brother developed a fisstech addiction
of course the neanderthals over on polygon couldn't hold themselves from writing another dissertation on why the witcher 3 is "sexist, racist and offensive".
of course the neanderthals over on polygon couldn't hold themselves from writing another dissertation on why the witcher 3 is "sexist, racist and offensive".
Yeah, like holy fuck. It's like they didn't pay attention while playing it at all???? I mean for ffs there's an entire quest where [sp]A dwarf smith asks you to get some rare tools, and when you return you find out that it's actually his female companion who is the master smith and then she has the ability to publicly be the smith after making the superior armor for the Nilfgaardian officer[/sp] Or how about the fact that Triss [sp]has taken it upon herself to basically create an underground railroad for Mages and other magic users in Novigrad[/sp] or how Yennefer [sp]has a take charge attitude and doesn't need to rely on anyone else to get shit done, at least from what I've seen of her so far (such as stealing that mask on Skelliege, and then using it as Geralt is arguing with Ermion over whether or not the masks hould actually be used[/sp] Or in Family Matters [sp]the wife and daughter of the Bloody Baron leave on their own accord to get away from an abusive husband/father[/sp] and as far as I can tell Ciri is doing something important on her own. And that's just off the top of my head. Like holy shit, there are characters who are sexist, but that's the point because they're a shitty person. The game itself is as far from being sexist as possible tbh.
Awesome, another serving of Witcher coming up. I just finished the main game, too. It just blows my mind how outrageously good overall The Witcher 3 is and even more so how awesome CDPR are with their continual support for the title more than a year after its release.
The witcher 3 is gonna give us more and better content the some of the AAA game titles this year and last year.

And that's just off the top of my head. Like holy shit, there are characters who are sexist, but that's the point because they're a shitty person. I haven't even brought the main game How long will I be playing this game
I haven't even brought the main game How long will I be playing this game
I clocked around 96 hours on my first playthrough while still having some quests to do and lots of the map unexplored (I didn't explore south of Velen). A more completionist playthrought can take around 150-220 hours.
I'm so fucking excited

Since video game "journalist" site's aren't really known for hiring people who have a lot of creative talent they may automatically assume that anything the author writes is just for them to parrot off their opinion because that's exactly what they'd do.
About damn time. I am so ready for this
Time to nitpick like the asshole I am: That mountain skybox looks like shit compared to what these amasing developers can accomplish.
a lot but Witcher 3 respects every minute of your time
It'll be a 30FPS 1024x768 quest, but it'll be a worthy one
Would I need to play previous games to enjoy the full experience of the Witcher 3? Or does it not detract much
I'm going to say yes, everyone else will say no.
Would I need to play previous games to enjoy the full experience of the Witcher 3? Or does it not detract much
You should play the previous games. You don't need to play them to understand the story but you're fucking yourself up the ass if you choose not to since you only get one first playthrough. The game is culmination of the books and the first 2 games. It's not like Just Cause where you can just jump right in
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
?
Would I need to play previous games to enjoy the full experience of the Witcher 3? Or does it not detract much
The story is self-contained and you could definitely enjoy the hell out of it and understand what's going on without having played the previous titles. However, you will be missing out a little bit on character relationships and backgrounds, references to events and factions, things like that. Like, they do a pretty good job at the exposition explaining who characters are and what their relationship to Geralt is. "woah hey Dandelion my wacky bard friend why I remember that time we did such and such!" And when that fails, the in-game notebook offers even more info. Basically, from a story standpoint you don't need to have played the previous titles, but you probably won't have the same connection or involvement in the characters (and won't be able to appreciate how fuckin' far the game has come since the first title).
Would I need to play previous games to enjoy the full experience of the Witcher 3? Or does it not detract much
I didn't play the previous games and you definitely don't have to, but I really wish I did.
Would I need to play previous games to enjoy the full experience of the Witcher 3? Or does it not detract much
I won't blame you if you can't get into the first game; I really tried with that one and the combat just put me off. Witcher 2 is a significant improvement though, and it has a great storyline that sets up events and characters that pay off in Witcher 3.
Would I need to play previous games to enjoy the full experience of the Witcher 3? Or does it not detract much
I would argue that it would be a much better idea to read at least the Sword of Destiny book, which is the first book of a collection of short stories that introduce two major characters in Witcher 3 that are not introduced in the previous games. Also that book is a blast to read.
ERR MAH GURDD ITS FINALLY HERE
I didn't play the previous games and you definitely don't have to, but I really wish I did.
Yeah I jumped in on 3 but after playing it I wish I had played the previous two (I plan on it sometime). Really though the Witcher 3 is like the best game I have ever played, and I have played a lot of games. Few others can match what CDPR has done.
YES! I only played Witcher 3 for the first time a couple of months ago and It's hands down the best game I have played in last couple of years and exploration is fun and satisfying because the world feels so alive. Can't wait to play this, hope it's longer than HoS. Where will this take place on the map? I haven't played the first two so I didn't recognise their armours and that castle. Is this the Toussaint people keep talking about? If so why is it so significant to Geralt?

Read all the books and played the shit out of 2 and 3 though and I didn't feel like I missed anything except maybe like one or two scenes which might have a reference to a W1 character. If anything, there are more references/cameos with witcher 2 characters.
