Wait hold up. What the fuck does Doublefine need more money for :v:? They got millions more than they requested.
McGee, sure, I get. But how did DoubleFine mess their finances this bad?
Even though we received much more money from our Kickstarter than we, or anybody anticipated, that didn’t stop me from getting excited and designing a game so big that it would need even more money.
Accidentally over scaled it? I'm sorry but that sounds like bullshit.
Accidentally over scaled it? I'm sorry but that sounds like bullshit.
That was poorly phrased. He had a rough idea of what a $400,000 game would be in terms of size, and overestimated how much 3 million was as well as underestimating the cost of what's probably mostly artwork. I it's fairly uncommon for game art to be entirely almost entirely hand painted. Mcgee can go fuck himself now, seriously. He's whining about publishers being so shitty and has very good reason to not trust them and only work via crowd funding then just goes "fuck it I want the easy way out". Don't be surprised if the game comes out and it sucks then about 2 months after Mcgee goes "publisher ruined it". Nothing is more pathetic than someone completely going against well-founded ideology and approach to business.

Even though I've been studying the industry for a couple of years now, I still haven't been informed of where all this money goes off to. I mean come on, millions. [editline]3rd July 2013[/editline] I guess it really depends on how many people they have on the team.

I'm surprised people are just now waking up to the fact that kickstarter is totally unreliable and makes no guarantee of if you'll actually ever see what you paid for (hint: it's not an investment). Why do you think game devs are even flocking to it? It's because it allows them to sidestep investors that realize that A: the people who want to develop the idea haven't made an actually good game, and B: don't want to pay out lots of cash for something that's not likely to succeed in the unlikely event the game reaches market on-time and within budget.

They want their product out ASAP so they hire a ton of people to get it out rapidly. That's the problem though, a lot of them just treat it as a manufactured product and you can instantly tell when the team hasn't really put much care or emotion into it. Easy litmus test to tell if team has actually enjoyed making a game: easter eggs If there aren't any in a game where some could easily fit then team no doubt had the whip cracking every 5 seconds.
