It's Friday afternoon and the weekend party is kicking off early for Hello Games, the developer behind the divisive No Man's Sky. Mere minutes ago, the studio's Twitter account posted a tweet saying, "No Man's Sky was a mistake." The tweet has since been deleted, and the account is currently set to private. Now, the question is: was Hello Games' account hacked, or was this the work of a disgruntled employee?
http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2016/10/hello_games_tweets_no_mans_sky_was_a_mistake their twitter is currently made private: https://twitter.com/hellogames

Poor Hello Games!
God their whole story is a real trainwreck. I don't realistically see them bouncing back from this.
When hello games goes under, no mans cry.
imagine if they un-protect their twitter account and then never comment on this happening actually that isn't too hard to imagine
arent their offices also abandoned, supposedly? did they just take the money and run?
I guess it's over for Hello Games. A few months of silence. They're probably going defunct.
arent their offices also abandoned, supposedly? did they just take the money and run?
i thought one of their devs claimed that they weren't working at that office anymore and are now working at an "undisclosed location" or something which makes them sound like they're cooking meth or something
arent their offices also abandoned, supposedly? did they just take the money and run?
Most likely.
-snip- I don't think it's worth drawing to conclusions before we've got the other side of the story.
I feel bad for people who pour lots of passion and effort into exciting projects, only for all their work to get marketed in an extremely misleading way by someone who just wants to make a quick buck. We don't know the full story behind No Man's Sky, but it's happened a lot in the games industry and if anything is just getting worse.

If they'd been left alone to develop the game (provided they'd had the initial capital to support it), it would likely have been an entirely different story.

It was just supposed to be a indie-game project with a little bit of a philosophical story and it wasn't supposed to have much substance at all. Basically, Sony overhyped which made everyone in the gaming community overhyped for it and by that point Sean was in a terrible situation. So either he could fuck the business deal with Sony and say "LOL this is just a fun small project with a quirky indie game story and not much else". But, no way he could do that and now they are left either picking up the remnants of a game thats' just too grand to be built up with more content or walk into the sunset being happy go lucky.
Basically, Sony overhyped
sean murray pretty much spear-headed the PR machine of no man's sky though?

They replied, telling me that a “disgruntled employee” had made the tweet and that they were “currently trying to sort out the issue.”
yea sean was the one that overhyped it for the most part. he's also the one that wanted to price the game at 60$.

But a big part of the problem is that so many people buy into that sort of thing and let it happen, instead of keeping their expectations in check. I'm not sure how that can be fixed.
http://www.polygon.com/2016/10/28/13453440/no-man-sky-creator-game-was-a-mistake?
Reached for comment Friday morning, a person responding to Murray’s email account and identifying himself Sean said that he sent the tweet. “The tweet is from me, but somebody from the team took it down,” he wrote in the email. “We have not been coping well.”
Wow.
sean murray pretty much spear-headed the PR machine of no man's sky though?
Is this before or after the Sony investment? Honestly, it's a terrible situation either way.
I rescind the previous comment because Forbes has the story as well.
I reached out to the developer and asked them whether it was a hack. A representative of Hello Games replied, telling me that a “disgruntled employee” had made the tweet and that they were “currently trying to sort out the issue.”
It very well could have been Sean, or any other of the 15 employees.
Might be a attack on Hello Games that compromised everything. I'd say wait for other sources.
you mean the forbes source above that says it was a disgruntled employee? which matches the polygon source by the way, and i assume the person forbes talked to was not sean murray, which makes the story a little less blurry.
not for 60$
A direct result of the aforementioned overhype.
