• Audio problems with Windows 7

Hey guys, I've sent a message to Creative but have yet to hear a reply so I was thinking if posting here might get any opinions/help. I recently installed Windows 7 and I have a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Audio soundcard. And since I have installed the new operating system, in which I also installed the latest drivers for the device which says supports Windows 7. Whenever I have music playing, or audio in general its very distorted at times. The sound quality goes down and all I hear is some distortion/echo but then sometimes will go back to the normal sound. So I guess you can say the problem is poor sound quality. Was just wandering if anyone has had similiar issues or could shed some light on fixing the issue? Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers.
I feel your pain. This is a common problem, one caused by many different issues. There are a couple of different solutions, but you need to post a couple of things. What motherboard do you have? How much RAM do you have? Is the soundcard PCI-Express or PCI?
Creative is the worst company in the world. I ripped mine out and just went with mobo.

It also turns out I have a X-Fi Fidelity not Music which I thought I had, but still having the same issue. Thanks for your help :)

Thanks for your help :)
Well, the problem is your motherboard, or more specifically, the nForce 4 chipset. Thanks to the shoddy workmanship of both nVidia and Creative, a combination of that chipset and most X-Fi soundcards causes sound distortion, loss of quality, and in my case, no audio at all. However, my problem was also caused by the fact that I had 4GB of RAM, so the solution was to simply limit Windows to using only 3GB. Since this isn't the case for you, all I can suggest is that you download the latest drivers from the Creative website (http://support.creative.com/Products/Products.aspx?catid=1) if you haven't already done so, and also take a look around here (http://www.sevenforums.com/sound-audio/) to see if any specific fixes or custom drivers can be of any help.
For some reason if I don't have something plugged into my front audio port, my rear audio port won't work. This is with Windows 7, though I can't think of what is wrong with your soundcard with Windows 7, mayby it is the soundcard itself?
I also have problems with this. I recently got my new computer, and installed w7, but I got no audio at all. Ive tried to plug the speakers in every place, but they dont have sound. And the mobo cd isnt supported by w7 or something... Ive tried to mess with the device manager, but didnt get anything...
Drivers...

Yeah I have downloaded the latest drivers from Creative and the problem hasn't gone away so I will browse around those Sevenforums and see what I can find - thanks heaps for your help. :) [editline]07:21AM[/editline] Yay I fixed the problem. After browsing the Sevenforums and finding other people had the exact same problem with the sound quality. It turns out in the "Creative Control Panel" after installing the drivers that In my case and obviously others under Speaker configuration the setting is set to "7.1 Speakers" by default. I changed mine to headphones instead, and has been working fine. So if anyone else is having this issue, try that.
