I have an old Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q725, and I was wondering what I should do with it. Seeing as it's value is only roughly 200 dollars, I've decided that I would probably be able to get more use and worth out of it if I were to re-purpose it for something else, rather than selling it. Do any of you have any suggestions? I was thinking about running a dedicated minecraft server off of it, but I was wondering if there were any other more interesting things I could do with it.
You could run some sort of gameserver off of it, or a personal website.
porn archive.
You could use it as you would a laptop or netbook in the living room. Set it up on the coffee table or something, as long as its not invasive, and use it for internet shit. Maybe hook it up with your home theater system if you've got it.

Thanks, but I already use my desktop for both those things. For those recommending a game server, what do you think the maxim it could handle would be?
Specs:
2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 processor, 64 GB solid state drive, 320 GB hard disk drive, 4 GB RAM,
GeForce 9800M GTX graphics card (with 512 MB discrete memory)
Even my i7 can get a little stressed at times when running a Minecraft server. If you don't plan on having a large amount of players with TNT, it should be decent enough.

Are you using bukkit server, that might help since Notchs version is a unstable POS.

Of course, how else would I overload the system with 5x larger explosions? :smug:
Is there anything interesting I could do with it other than host a personal website or game server?

experimental linux machine. run different distros on it.
What the fuck? It is a fucking nice laptop, why are you not using it?
You can use it as a media PC in your living room maybe?

I'm not using it because I have no idea what to use it for. I just built a PC with top of the line parts, so it's no longer my main computer.
Sell it on Craigslist for 550, then use that money to buy a ATOM/Llano + NAS
Do you really think it'd be able to fetch a price that high? The current market value seems to be piss low.
Where do you live in the U.S? I'll give you 250 for it right now and pay for shipping.

Why would you sell a great laptop and turn around and buy a shitty Atom based system that has 10x worse performance? You surely don't need it to run a NAS, since they're attached usually by Ethernet and have their own CPUs/OSes on them to run standalone.
