The announcement was made on Thursday. Written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, the “Blade Runner” sequel will take place several decades after the 1982 original. Ford recently said the second installment’s script was the “best thing he’s ever read.” He will reprise his role as Rick Deckard in the film, which originally took place in a dystopian 2019 Los Angeles. Further plot details are known.
Variety
holy shit do i want to believe?
Is the plot going to surround Harrison Ford at a retirement home going senile and thinking one of the other tenants is an android?
Is the plot going to surround Harrison Ford at a retirement home going senile and thinking one of the other tenants is an android?
You say that jokingly, but you could probably pull it off if you went a similar route to 12 Angry Men or something like that.
I guess the [sp]Deckard is a replicant[/sp] theory is disconfirmed then?
Harrison Ford was confirmed ages ago, but Denis Villeneuve directing? The guy who did Prisoners and Enemy? Shit, I'm so damn excited right now.
I hope Harrison Ford gets just a minor role. He is one of my all time favorite actors, but he just feels tired and bored in newest titles, and I don't want that to have a negative influence on the overall film.
Damn if ford gets smacked around nearly as much as he did in the first it'd be a great watch. Really the story of blade runner is completely compatable with this. I just hope they don't go too over the top dystopian like the remake of total recall, there's something grounding with the architecture and cities of blade runner that other dystopias get wrong.
I'm really confused. Didn't Harrison Ford hate the first film? During the filming and after it came out?
I'm really confused. Didn't Harrison Ford hate the first film? During the filming and after it came out?
He disliked how Scott didn't direct the actors, unlike when he worked with George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola who gave him motivation and criticisms.
I guess the [sp]Deckard is a replicant[/sp] theory is disconfirmed then?
Ridley is the one that wanted people to believe [sp]he was a Repliact[/sp] but everything else he is portrayed in hints at something much more ambiguous. [sp]If he was a Replicant, then it would be such an underwhelming thing for Deckard to be going through. As the story is best served as it being ambiguous/him being a human wondering if he is a Replicant, a lot of people choose to believe that despite what Ridley says.[/sp]

I love the original Blade Runner, and it was always be one of my favorite films. Something tells me that a modern sequel just won't capture the aura and feel of the original. I'll definitely give it a shot though.
should have gotten blomkamp to direct this instead of a new alien

Is it a sequel for the sake of having a sequel or a sequel that'll actually expand on the ideas, sparsely at that, brought up in the first film? It wasn't exactly a gripping piece of cinema, mostly known for is aesthetics than its characters or narrative.
Harrison ford is fucking old now.
Great news, but I really have no idea how they're going to tackle this.
should have gotten blomkamp to direct this instead of a new alien
There's a lot of fan speculation (and a few easter eggs in Aliens & Prometheus) that infer Blade Runner takes place in the same universe as Alien, but I don't think it's ever been officially acknowledged.
Hope he can make the sequel more exciting though. Fell asleep watching the first one
This is actually better then if Ridley Scott directed it, Denis Villeneuve is a great director.
He disliked how Scott didn't direct the actors, unlike when he worked with George Lucas
How can Scott be worse than "faster and more intense" Lucas?
This is a very solid choice for director, so yeah I'm pretty interested.
Ford recently said the second installment’s script was the “best thing he’s ever read.”
I don't know why they bother to always include a comment like this for an upcoming movie. Of course somebody heavily involved in the project is going to say this shit. You're never going to see the article that says "Ford recently said the script sounds like shit, but the pay is good so fuck it."
not looking forward to this, Harrison is a rambling old man. :[
What a weird place to put a smiley face
ok i changed it, less creepy
Should be concerned that it's set 70 years after the first. They'll probably completely remove the high-tech low-life aspect and make it post-cyberpunk AKA all of the tech none of the themes. I genuinely don't know how the could even continue with what the first film was trying to say at this point. It defined almost perfectly what it meant to be human.
I'm glad Ridley isn't in the director's chair this time. He's been failing with his writing and directing since Prometheus.
How can Scott be worse than "faster and more intense" Lucas?
Pretty much not talking to Harrison at all.
I'm glad Ridley isn't in the director's chair this time. He's been failing with his writing and directing since Prometheus.
directors do not write scripts when will people understand this
