• BEST possible gaming rig?
    27 replies, posted
Hey Facepunch, I've made up my own build that would be possibly THE BEST gaming computer you can have at the moment. Now I have a huge budget, and of course I could post my current build, but I do not want biased opinions based on what I am picking right now. If money was NOT an issue, what would be the best gaming rig? I'm looking for a water cooled setup. I live in the USA -- Newegg.com only please unless the part cannot be found on there. Thanks.
We really need a budget to work with. I don't know by you saying a 'huge budget' you mean $2000 or $5000 or possibly even more, or maybe less.

There has got to be some limit as to the power of a rig you can build. Get what im saying? Like 2 GTX 280's or something? Idk much about PC building but there has got to be some limit to the power if there isnt a limit for money.
just take a look at the billion other threads we've had here about the exact same thing
something along the lines of 24gb ram dual 5970's core i7 965 4 512gb ssd's in raid 0 another 2 terabyte drives for storage
6gb 2000mhz ddr3 ram quad 5870's core i7 975 2 256gb ssd raid 0
4 512gb ssd's in raid 0
why not 24 of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227502&cm_re=1tb_ssd-_-20-227-502-_-Product
o word. ridiculously high overpriced rigs have suddenly gone to a whole new level.... 91,000 for just the hard drives
why not 24 of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227502&cm_re=1tb_ssd-_-20-227-502-_-Product
oh snap, this guy wins
Well then...i take back my previous statement, and produce a new one: If he isn't willing to post a budget, build him a $500,000 Rig, with $91,000 being for the hard drives alone...
why not 24 of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227502&cm_re=1tb_ssd-_-20-227-502-_-Product
What I would do for just one of those.
What I would do for just one of those.
if you were going for just one... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227500
Which way pixar?
im trying to build a supar computar with a server board.. not so successful. they also only have 2 ssd's in stock... [editline]11:34AM[/editline] OK money not being an issue lets see... (mind you there's only 1 ssd in stock so thats why it looks like it's only 13,000) The total cost comes out to be around $33,000. Money set aside, I can assure you won't be upgrading for a while. EDIT: Nope now its like 37,000. I got an extra 2 60 inch tv's so you can run eyefinity. https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=13887906
I was thinking after getting this computer built that I will be creating a whole "Game Room" I'm currently looking into interesting components, such as hydraulic chairs for Forza, and TV stands. Eyefinity is a good one, I completely forgot about it. Most of you all have stated the obvious, what kind of water cooling system should I go with?
whack a tesla or two in your machine and your good to go
whack a tesla or two in your machine and your good to go
...for rendering.
Gulftown (ES) on single stage Cascade (you can get one if your connected or ebay lol) EVGA Classified 4way 12GB Corsair GTX 2000Mhz 4 HD5870s on a PA480 Rad with EK fullcover blocks Silverstone DC 1500w psu Corsair C300 500GB for OS and four 2TB Western Digital Green for storage. Li Lian PC-P80B something like that.
OP I'm not trying to talk you out of buying the most powerful computer setup today, but there comes a point when you seriously are wasting money. A Dual-CPU (8 core, 16 threaded) board with 24GB of ram, a pair of 5970s and a couple SSDs in raid REALLY shouldn't cost you more than 10,000-12,000 USD. Anything past that, and you're honestly throwing money away. You could spend that extra money on a bigger screen(s), a better stereo system, or other things that aren't computer related. The rigs these guys are picking out are supreme overkill, especially since a 4-way RAID on SSDs will max out every single SATA controller on the market. [editline]04:05PM[/editline] Like I said, I just put together a wishlist, and with all of the bells and whistles (two PICe x8 SSDs raided together for ~1500MB/s reads, amongst other things), total cost was just under $11,000 before the monitors. I could have picked parts that were more expensive and driven the cost up to ~$15,000, but the performance increase would have been 10% better at best. Not really worth the $4000, since you'd already have the one of the fastest PCs on your continent.
Could someone explain what exactly a SSD is?

fuck your 60 inch TV's use an IMAX screen and sound kit
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=SSD
Care to put it in terms we can all understand, I still don't understand what it does.
Care to put it in terms we can all understand, I still don't understand what it does.
It is a denser and slower ram. But it is able to hold information without constant power.
Care to put it in terms we can all understand, I still don't understand what it does.
It is a solid state drive. Which means if you drop it, it wont be fucked. Unlike the hard drive you have in your computer/laptop which if dropped will be fucked. Also if you go to wikipedia, you can read the advantages/disadvantages of them.
