Defender with an assault weapon, intruder with a handgun. Also note that this was at RIT, only 20 miles from Webster, the area where two firefighters were killed by a shooter with an AR-15.
A bit more fuel for the bonfire of a guns debate we've been having here recently.
Edit: Snipped article. My bad.
Finally, some publicity about someone who actually uses a firearm for proper self defense.

I'm sure everyone is going to devote their debate energy to the AWB thread.
Might want to snip that article. Before you get banned.
-Snip-
Just read the new sticky rule.
Why should he snip it? Is there a duplicate somewhere?
Read the fucking sticky.
Why should he snip it? Is there a duplicate somewhere?
No, because you aren't allowed to copy and paste articles anymore. Only the link and a snippet of it.
Read the fucking sticky.
Why are you getting mad over someone not reading a post that hasn't even reached an age of a day? Matter of fact, why are you getting mad at all?
Why should he snip it? Is there a duplicate somewhere?
not supposed to paste the text of articles... imo it encourages even worse reading, but oh well.
Check the sticky. I'd rather they lock threads and remove them rather than ban people on the spot, but that's they they've chosen to do, I guess.
Yup, just read the sticky. I apologize.

It's because of that lawsuit that got filled against the site for stealing news content.
lmfao fuck that
Can you imagine how much this dude shit himself when he busts into rob this kid's house armed with a pistol and then the kid starts popping off at him with an AR15

Didn't happen. Read the article.
Read the fucking sticky.
Stop with the backseat moderation.

Lawsuit?
It's because of that lawsuit that got filled against the site for stealing news content.
But that lawsuit was ages ago and garry won.
Is there a post by garry explaining the "Why?" of this new rule?

Has he ever explained the 'why' of a new rule?
It's because of that lawsuit that got filled against the site for stealing news content.
Righthaven, yeah. As I recall though those cases were thrown out completely. And Righthaven no longer exists. They had to pay a successful defendant, failed to do so, and it was later revealed that they had basically nothing left, so their remaining properties were seized and auctioned off Righthaven stopped existing in 2011.
Stop with the backseat moderation.
I answered his question, that's not backseat moderation.

Not mad, just confused at how you can miss the first topic that says "RULES - DON'T PASTE NEWS ARTICLES - LINK TO THEM"
Lawsuit?
Basically, a firm known as Righthaven would file lawsuits against sites that reposted articles from certain online news sites they had a deal with. They would file for damages and the rights to the domain name. A couple of people unknowingly posted articles from sites Righthaven had a deal with, and so they tried to sue Garry along with many others. Courts ruled that they had no grounds to sue in any of their cases and they owed one defendant around $5000 in damages (which was later inflated from interest because they failed to pay) as well as roughly $34000 in legal fees to the defendant's attorneys. They continually refused to pay and eventually their assets were seized by the U.S. Marshal where it was revealed they had less than $1000 left in their accounts.
Found it:
Snippets of the news post are fine.
It's just not fair to copy and paste entire articles from another website into the forum. This has nothing to do with righthaven, it's common decency.
Nothing to do with the lawsuit and he does have a point.
You can post snippets of the article, just not all of it.
In all fairness, one good thing doesn't make a dozen of bad any better. Then again, he could as well protect himself with a AWB accepted gun, it doesn't matter that he had a AR-15.

I miss new rules all the time. It's easy to glance over the rules thread if you aren't actively looking for it.

Except that this is not just a single case. Events like this happen all across the US but they doesn't get reported because the media doesn't get any attention from it.

I debated whether or not to post this article because it is, ultimately, a fairly minor anecdote, and more relevant to RIT students and the people of Rochester than the world as a whole.
But in the context of the ongoing argument, that in itself is significant. Sometimes what's important isn't what gets picked up by the news.

Conversely, I could say in response to a shooting that one bad thing doesn't make a dozen of good any better (and statistically I'd be on more sound footing, given that so-called 'assault weapons' are incredibly rarely used for crime), and then point out that a murderous psychopath could do just as well with a AWB accepted gun, and it doesn't matter that he had an AR-15.
Ultimately you're arguing the fundamental same point as pro-gun advocates; that the specific firearm doesn't matter.
haha dont bring a BB pistol to an assault weapon fight
Raymond owns an AR-15 which is a military style rifle.
wrong
The ar-15 is, by definition, a civilian version of an m16.
I love how that whore is banning things by cosmetic features.
