France objects to Belgium's 2 euro coins commemorating Waterloo, so Belgians issue 2.50 coins of Wat
Paris, it seems, has been outflanked once again.
After it objected to a decision in March by Belgium to introduce a new 2-euro coin to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Napoleon’s ignominious defeat at Waterloo, the Belgians retreated, scrapping 180,000 coins they had already minted.
But in a style perhaps befitting a battle that ended French hegemony in Europe, victory is proving elusive.
This week Belgium decided to circumvent French resistance by invoking an unlikely European Union rule that allows countries to issue euro coins of their choice, provided they are in an irregular denomination.
It unveiled a 2.50 euro coin — a first in Belgium — and has now begun minting 70,000 of them. They display a monument of a lion atop a cone-shaped hill on the site of France’s humiliation, as well as lines indicating where troops were positioned when forces led by Britain and Prussia defeated Napoleon on territory near Brussels. Cheeky little move.

Sucks that the French are sore about it, but they have absolutely no right to tell anyone what to put on their coins and try and dictate what they're allowed to commemorate or take pride in.

:v:
I don't get how you can be this sore about it. Yeah, it sucks when your country loses a major war, even if it was several hundred years ago, but like, come on.

Surprisingly the French aren't giving up about this
Imagine waking up and remembering that you're French

If there's any prejudice about frenchmen I subscribe to, it is that they're uptight about pretty much everything.

When a Frenchman dies, he is still French.
You cannot escape.
Take that you faguettes!
:downs:
I don't get it, why is Belgium commemorating a victory that was mainly a British effort? I don't think the concept of Belgium, as an independent political entity from the Dutch was a thing back then.
Imagine waking up and remembering that you're French
Same charge could be leveled at Germans if you want to hash out old history, or were you just making a joke about French people, in any case they have a natural defense mechanism that makes them feel self-superor to all other countries
isn't it a bit odd how a 2.5 euro coin can be a thing

It happened to the people in Belgium, it happened in the area Belgium now occupies, therefore it had a direct influence on Belgium which is pretty important.
Imagine living on the land where the emperor got fucked up lol.
I went there and crested that hill and saw the fields, there are still bullets in the grass it's pretty amazing.
LOL YEAH FUCK FRENCHIES HAHAHAHAHA.
edit: /sarcasm. Yes I take it badly because you all always insults french people without any arguments.

Unlike Germany & ww2, France still seems butthurt over their defeat.
Atleast be the better guy and admit it instead of ruining it for everyone else (see the bitchfit over the original 2 euro coins).

You mean we shouldn't do anything if some countries want to make fun of us? I don't see what's wrong being against this kind of stuff.

Learn to handle the banter and banter back
Banter

Banter back!
Is making up a new currency value allowed?
The article asked whether France was a “poor loser,” even as it stressed that the 2.50 euro coin would be illegal outside of Belgium, where it is to be sold in plastic bags, at a cost of €6.
I suppose that answers my question.

Have you ever thought about how many American "fat/dumb-ass" or hyper-patriotism jokes there are?
Or Australian "upside-down land" jokes?
Or what about the whole "Russians are horrible drivers"?
Maybe even the "Canada is the land of maple syrup and moose" running joke?
Everyone has some weird stereotypes, people generally make jokes about their own country's all the time.

Of course; I already did that before. I'm just getting fed up of all those sheeps making "jokes" like these:
Imagine waking up and remembering that you're French
We should, of course, get over this defeat.
But it's okay if these kids STILL make these "white flag" and "lol being french" kind of jokes? First time I saw this white flag joke was in 2008.
At this point, these "jokes" has been run to the ground; they were fun once, but now this is just insulting. I don't go on all german topics to write "ahah hitler country!".

Yeah but we conquered you, that's one good thing to come out of being a "Hitler country"
I'd imagine waking up as a Frenchman with this forboding music track playing in my head

Everything about the Euro is supposed to further the idea of Europe as a unified and single body, peacefully coexisting. Putting one of the countries getting its ass kicked on one of the coins sort of makes things weird.
Wow had no idea countries could make their own euro coins with different values than the norm.
Wonder if I'll ever end up with one.
Euro coins are like collectables :v:
Napoleon did nothing wrong.
Haha, eat shit France
