I'm just asking, because they look really similar tbh.
Intel is made of new technology and awesome.
While AMD works just as well.
Because Intel wants too.
this thread is going to end up either horrible or hilarious
Intel is pretty much high quality CPUs.
A E8400(2*2,60GHz) works as well if not better than my 6400+ (2*3.2GHz)
AMD is cheaper but Intel's processors are far superior
Intel performs better. AMD costs less while still performing very well.
A good example of this is the i5 750 vs the 955. The i5 performs better, but the 955 is cheaper.
So generally, in low budget builds, go with AMD, but in higher budget builds, go with Intel.

oh
And I was busy staring at your avatar for like 5 minutes. :\
The i5 is worth the extra £20 more.
Far superior

I cant believe you just fucking said that. Youre one heck of a troll. Far superior?

/agree

It was an exaggeration but Derilicious is correct.
So which one is better out of these two, and they're about the same price, like 20 dollars difference.
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T(3.2GHz)AM3 9MBCache125W
Intel Core i7 860 Processor LGA1156 2.8GHz 8MB Cache CPU

They are. AMD are no where near Intel. The fastest CPU AMD have is the 1090T Hexacore. Compare that to an i7 980x, well if you can compare it. I would chose an i5 750 over a 1090T anyday anyway.

i7 860
low end to midrange, there is no excuse not to buy AMD. if you want a high end system (i7, Xeon, etc.) intel is the only way
Well AMD has better compatibility than Intel. Which is something to consider when buying a CPU.
Intel is the performance king and thus can price its processors as it pleases.
I have always considered Intel to be cheaper, or really just more bang for the buck.

Uh... the i7 920 came out first... why would anyone regress back to an i5? That's just plain dumb.

Maybe because the i7 has little to no performance gains over the i5 in gaming and it's cheaper.
Now this thread will end... Very flam'd

Totally depends on the intended usage. Intel i7 CPUs are at this moment superior in gaming, but the extra two cores in AMD's Phenom II X6 1055T and 1090T really help if you're doing 3D modeling and rendering, photoshop, video editing and encoding, and of course heavy multi-tasking. In Cinebench R10, POVRay and Blender (rendering benchmarks) 1090T is second only to the Intels $999 six-core i7. All this because current games mostly support dual or at most quad cores, so they benefit from having higher clocks on the fewer cores. Modern multimedia applications squeeze the juice out of every core you have, so the clock-for-clock slower X6 work wonderfully for them.

The i7s suck for gaming since it gives just a tiny bit more fps. You should get them if you do things like rendering and such.
The i5 750 or the 955 are what you should go for if you game.
I think what you mean is that i7s are overpowered for general gaming?
Yeah, most of their features don't get used.
It's a waste of money to use an i7 unless you do rendering and things like that. An i5 750 can do games just as well as an i7.

When it comes to plain gaming, the i7 920 gets like two FPS more than the i5 750 (Sometimes the 750 even performs better than the 920 at gaming). Paying 100 dollars more for an i7 920 when you're only going to be gaming anyway, is what's truly dumb.
They are non-american brands trying to copy the good correct intel! They are evil! Used by hackers everywhere!

it's cool though, you can get a 920 for $199 at a local Microcenter
I wouldn't say that buying an i7 is a complete waste, just a moderate one, since there'll probably be games in the future that can use 6 cores effectively and such.
And intel is more expensive cause better.
