Kevin Rudd warned Hillary Clinton to be prepared to use force against China ''if everything goes wrong'', an explosive WikiLeaks cable has revealed.
Mr Rudd also told Mrs Clinton during a meeting in Washington on March 24 last year that China was ''paranoid'' about Taiwan and Tibet and that his ambitious plan for an Asia-Pacific community was intended to blunt Chinese influence.

It also reveals Mr Rudd offered Australian special forces to fight inside Pakistan once an agreement could be struck with Islamabad.
The cable details a 75-minute lunch Mr Rudd held as prime minister with Mrs Clinton soon after she was appointed US Secretary of State.
Signed ''Clinton'' and classified ''confidential'', it is the first of the WikiLeaks cables that includes a substantive report on Australia.
Saw it on Sunrise this morning and laughed, why? Because Kevin Rudd is the current Foreign Affairs minister

Also said on the news that this could hurt Australia's standing with China.
Finnally someone has reason to be pissed at Australia
Cool lets piss off a country that we heavily depend on and who heavily depends on us and has one of the largest standing armies.
I like where this is going.

It was confidential till Assange got it, that rascal.
Guess this is his way of biting back against Gillard not lettin' him back in.

I don't think China is going to invade Australia anytime soon for any reason short of armed aggression from Australia.
Wow Rudd, you are a dumbass.
Good thing you got your ass kicked out.

Karma is a bitch.
I am not surprised about this, to tell the truth. Actually, I expected this.

Don't forget he's current Minister of Foreign Affairs, he might get the boot twice

Oh he is?
I don't live in Australia, so I only knew he was the Prime Minister once.
Thanks Julian. You made your mamma worry.
For a second I had Kevin Rudd and Kevin Butler mixed up in my head.
[editline]5th December 2010[/editline]
Well, he's an Australian politician so he might as well be Kevin Butler.
Heh, no surprise. The Australian Defence White Paper of 2009 practically showed that Australia was willing to dive into the Asia-Pacific balance of power game.
See, everyone in every country does this. At some point, you find something about another country you don't like and say something about it.
This kind of pisses me off. When wikileaks exposes things like this, it seems like they are removing politician's capability to have free thought, because when a cable like this is leaked you have to watch everything you say everywhere.
They don't call him Krudd for no reason
Send the ones responsible take-out from Wong's Chinese food. It damn well nearly killed me

Meh, you could say that about any country for a worst case scenario. If everything goes wrong against China, Iran, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Russia, prepare to use force.

It'd be better if countries learned to understand that sometimes people, even politicians, say stupid things, and ignored it (which they seem to be doing anyway).

We can only hope
Was it really necessary to leak this one specifically? It seems like their only goal was to piss off the two most powerful countries on Earth. I understand exposing corruption but a backup plan for "if everything goes wrong" is not corruption or even bad. Hell, both Canada and the U.S. had backup plans for invading each other back in WW2.
Now where did i put my bunker?
Rudd didn't say "attack China gogogo". He told the US to be prepared to use force "if everything goes wrong", which is a valid comment. Besides that, I'm not surprised China's paranoid about Tibet and Taiwan - I'm pretty sure that as part of the "One China" policy, China regards both territories as rightfully parts of China.

So Chinese-Austalians are now a potential "threat"?

No I'm saying that when we go out sometimes, we try and play 'Spot The Aussie'

In the city yes, I rarely ever see Asians where I live.

Well, welcome to a globalized world!
I don't see this being too detrimental to AU-CH relations. Might set the back a couple of months, but that's it.
Kevin Rudd however, is gone from his current portfolio very soon IMO.

Like, indigenous Australians or white people?

I thought Kevin Rudd liked China quite much, never thought he would be the one making such statements.
