• Low FPS in source games on Mac

Hey Facepunch. My friend who's a Mac user downloaded steam and bought L4D2 and the Orange Box recently, but whenever he plays either of these games (mostly TF2 and L4D2) his FPS slows down to an un-playable rate. He's tried putting his settings down to the recommended and lowest possible but nothing helped. He should be able to run it because he has the latest model of the Mac Book. Any answers?
Doesn't matter if he has the "latest" anything. What matters is what the GPU is in the Mac Book. It's likely some integrated Intel GPU, in which case he is out of luck.
When half-life 2 came out, I ran it on a Rage Pro 32mb with a playable framerate. I don't see why he should not be able to. Wait, Engine updates nvm... But even a Intel IGP should be able to run it on lowest.

update the drivers, OSX isn't the best for games anyways most ports are slapped over
It's a Macbook, that's why. Rage posts begin below this line: ___________________________________________________

The mac book's gpu is completely capable of running HL2, and even L4D2, at max settings. I'm not familiar with how it works on macs, though. Maybe it's using the less powerful card rather than the 9600?
9600m
GT. It's a fine card for a laptop. I play L4D2 with my 7200m just fine.
Oh my gosh.

[editline]30th November 2010[/editline] Source: I too own a Macbook, but I never play games on it unless I'm away from my desktop. [editline]30th November 2010[/editline] Another edit. I get around 20-30 fps in TF2 with my macbook on medium settings. it's still playable. In GMOD I get a little bit more.
