• The limmits to growth

Long story short Volkswagen funded a project to run a simulation of the world in 1972. The data inputed was about population, resources, industrialization etc. Since then it has been regularly updated, the last being in 2004 afaik?? Anyways, I'd be interested in hearing about other projects wich use computers to simmulate the world based on statistics and raw data, all in a scientific manner. It sounds eerily fammiliar to the foundation series by Asimov(sf book) where a mathemathical physicist concludes through analysis that the human civilisation spanning entire galaxies would come to an abrupt end, and thus he develops a genius plan to shorten the forseen dark ages, building a bastion of science on a far flung planet in the process, amongst all the ignorance engulfing the rest of humanity. So what do you think? What are the chances of it ending in collapse in the mid 21st century as the "limmits to growth" study advocates? I'd rather say that a bigger emphasis should be given to potential technical breakthroughs, along with the capacity to addapt to changing tides of time. Looking forward to your replies on this interesting subject!
Using our current Cultural Psychology(In regards to the Westernized world) collapse is inevitable. This culture in particular values ever increasing levels of consumption; to increase profits/GDP, regardless of the out-come. Usually for the worse of the planet. As if to say 'It's alright; we'll just buy a new one'. Infinite growth on a finite planet is impossible. This mindset that we need to keep consuming for the sake of consumption is archaic, out-dated and detrimental to the existance of life on this planet. As what can be seen with hydro-carbon fuels and Climate Change as an example. Compounding the impotency of solutions to problems, on a broad-scale societal spectrum, is money and the illusion of power in a 'democratically' elected Government. More often than not pre-selected officials, by those who control means of propoganda, perpetuate the ideals of a hierarcheal society that already benefits them. Why mess with a working formula right? Take a culture that admires burning all the firewood, to last a week, in one night. Combined with the paralysing enforcement of reason(Politics) and what you get is a bad time. Thankfully there's plenty of time to change. Science if utilized appropriately can diminish the need for the current culture we are all enslaved to. Anyways the rabbit hole goes deeper but i think thats a good start.
