Windows 8 "Xbox Music" app + external network drive

I've gone through a million and one different things. 3 Support guys - non windows annoyingly
What I'm doing is trying to play files in the "Xbox Music" app that are coming from a drive in a Mac on the network. I can access the files fine elsewhere and play them in things like Winamp but with this, no.
I've gone through the process of creating a Symbolic Link in the music Library and that won't work. If I manually navigate to a file and try to open it in the Music app, I get an error saying "This file format is not supported" even though it's a damned MP3. I even tried copying said file to my Local Library and it worked, yet trying to play it from the Mac's drive I get this stupid ass message.
Do any of you guys have any help or fixes for this?
Thanks, James.
Are you trying to play the file via an Xbox from a drive on a Mac?
No.
The "Xbox Music" app is a general music app that comes with Windows 8. It's primarily designed for streaming but it does detect music from your music library. I'm trying to play music on my PC.
Okay I just did a clean install of Windows 8 on my Primary Partition (It was still on Windows 7) and now I don't have the problem of playing files.
My library doesn't show in the "My Music" tab but I can still use the "Open File" option to navigate the folders.
