What's the best 2560x1440 monitor that I can get for ~$500?

1080p just isn't cutting it for me anymore.
I would prefer it to have an HDMI port so I don't need to buy any adapters from HDMI or micro Display Port.
So far I'm looking at this one:

Also, how realistic is that 80,000,000:1 rating?
Most that I see are 1000:1, but isn't that a different unit?
Thanks guys <3
I just recently bought a ips, 27",1080p Asus monitor and it is really nice.
The Korean panels you could pick up for probably around $300, they're all pretty familiar but they can be a risk. So if you do try and pick up one of the ones labelled 'Pixel-Perfect' so you know they've tested it for stuck/dead pixels.
I'm not so sure about the actual brand ones, although Asus are a good monitor brand in general. So are LG and BenQ if they have any of worth.

This is a PB287Q I'm running over HDMI.
TBH, unless you have two monitors beside each other, it's difficult to notice contrast differences.
I cant say how good/bad the contrast/colors actually are though, as I don't go through enough monitors to notice.
The best one you can get is the Dell U2713HM for $600. It's the most comparable to an iMac Thunderbolt Display.
E: Some other good options

Yamakasi and X-stars have dropped in price so that now you can get a perfect pixel 1440p 27" with multiple inputs and no dead pixels for $330 off Ebay.
I gambled on a Yamakasi from e-bay and it paid off.
My only complaints:
- the stand was really hard to assemble, but it worked once I got it together
- It occasionally freaks the fuck out when I first start my computer (lots of crazy colors) but unplugging it and plugging it back and fixes it
- The NVIDIA Linux drivers don't recognize its native resolution, so I had to manually configure it
Definitely worth it considering the hundreds of dollars I saved.

I have a QNIX and when I wake my computer from sleep it flashes like red, green, blue and then flickers then it's fine. Kinda annoying but I can't complain.

I'ven't had such issues with a clean install of newer nvidia drivers, but for whatever reason ATI cards derp out if you reboot while having any other monitors disconnected.
Also, trying to get it to work under multi-monitor in linux seems to be an absolute pain because of the lack of EDID.
I believe the multi-input ones have an EDID, or atleast some inner circuitry. The circuitry does induce lag compared to the non "deluxe" versions, but hdmi+Dp is nice. The originals took in the dual-dvi and pushed it straight to the panel.
Do not spend a bunch of money on a high-res monitor that doesn't have an IPS panel. I have this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Perfect-Pixel-CROSSOVER-27QW-IPS-LED-27-LG-AH-IPS-2560x1440-DVI-D-PC-Monitor-/221291347233?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item3385fdfd21
and here's basically the same thing but with HDMI and a couple other ports: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Perfect-Pixel-CROSSOVER-27QW-HDMI-LG-AH-IPS-LED-Monitor-27-2560X1440-HDMI-Port-/151187543372?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item23337ad54c
Seriously, the color quality, especially in the blacks and blues, is astronomically better on an IPS display. I bought mine about 6 months ago and I still think it was one of the best investments into my pc that I've made.

There are no 2560x1440 TNs as far as I know so it's a non issue. Best to avoid PLS unless you love light bleed and mediocre calibration. Also IPS =/= good color, expensive IPS = good color. It's you get what you pay for, not a certain technology being intrinsically better in every case.

The Cinema display is a great panel and glossy can be a must have for people who need the highest level of clarity but it should be noted that the response times are greater than that of other monitors because Apple doesn't implement heavy panel overdrive due to their intended use for art and such. Ghosting could be problematic in games.

It means nothing, they're all 800:1 or 1000:1, maybe 1500:1 on the best TN ever. You can get IPS panels that are better than that PB278Q at the same price, Samsung makes all the PLS panels and their color is below par for the price range. If someone is buying PLS they might as well buy one of the Korean monitors that newegg offers for $300.

Way better in every conceivable way. It can't even be put into words how much better the color is on the U2713HM. This is what you should buy if you intend to spend $500-600 on a WQHD panel. For a period of time I had two of these in my office at work and they're amazing.

I picked up my Auria from a local Microcenter for a bargain. Yeah, it's an Auria (whatever that is), but I've had it for a year and it works great, and looks good too. You might be able to scrounge one up from somewhere http://www.microcenter.com/product/384780/EQ276W_27_WQHD_IPS_LED_Monitor
glossy can be a must have for people who need the highest level of clarity
What? Are you suggesting that glossy is better than matte when it comes to computer monitors?
What? Are you suggesting that glossy is better than matte when it comes to computer monitors?
Objectively yes it is. Someone's lighting situation is completely irrelevant to the quality of a monitor and a matte coating serves to create graininess. Yes, there are situations where there's a lamp or a lighting fixture that makes using a glossy display very difficult due to reflecting but that has NOTHING to do with the monitor. There is no benefit to quality that you get from applying an AG coating.
The clarity thing actually is a big deal for some people too. It seems that the higher end your monitor is, the heavier the AG coating seems to be. It's actually commonly referred to as IPS sparkle because of the AG coating on high end displays. At work I'll always drag a window back to the iMac from the U2713HM if I plan to read for any prolonged period because it bothers me.

That makes sense. I suppose having no anti-glare filter would be higher quality but the actual usability would be dependant on your environment.
