A new statement from Sony Pictures Entertainment says that the company has been "actively surveying alternatives to enable us to release the movie on a different platform."
http://www.theverge.com/2014/12/19/7423921/sony-not-one-major-vod-has-stepped-forward-for-the-interview Seems like they're still wanting it to be released. Edit: A second link. http://www.theverge.com/2014/12/19/7423601/sony-pictures-ceo-we-have-every-desire-to-release-the-interview
"When it came to the crucial moment when the threat came out from what was called the [Guardians of Peace] at the time threatening audiences who would go to movie theaters the movie theater came to us one by one over a very short period of time we were completely surprised by it and announced that they would not carry the movie. At that time we had no alternative not to proceed with the theatrical release on December 25th. We have not caved, we have not given in, we have persevered and we have not backed down. We have always had every desire to have the American public to see this movie."
Somebody needs to set up a website just for this movie, I'm sure it would make quite a bit of money.
Humble bundle + sony call it the freedom bundle and bundle broforce, homefront, and other pro-american games with it. make it a 15$ minimum to get the interview with it. do it fgt.
Sony got hacked just for that movie and now nobody wants to distribute it through their websites/internet services. Gee I wonder why.
North Korea is such a shit country lmao
Sony got hacked just for that movie and now nobody wants to distribute it through their websites/internet services. Gee I wonder why.
This is true, but I'm sure a company that focuses in online distributions would have much better defenses then Sony did.
I'm surprised Netflix hasn't taken interest, this would be a cash-cow for them.
I'm surprised Netflix hasn't taken interest, this would be a cash-cow for them.
netflix won't take a chance on getting targeted, no matter how remote the possibility is.
Maybe North Korea hacked Sony not because Glorious Leader gets blown up, but because Glorious Leader's actor doesn't look like the real Glorious Leader at all. I had to take a double take at first
Uh... Sony, you HAVE a digital movie distribution service.
I just want to watch this movie because it will anger kim jong un and his goons
I'm sure if the Swedish authorities hadn't taken TPB down, they'd happily distribute it just to piss off North Korea. The one time piracy would have been useful for Sony, might as well release it for free just to piss the North koreans off than not be able to release it at all.
perfect opportunity to start up steam movies™ pre-order the interview on steam movies and receive kim's hairpiece in tf2
just set up a a torrent and distribute it online. At least its better for people to see it and not get money than no one seeing it at all.
I wonder if I can get permission to show the video on my site that's hosted on my budget vps
All this publicity is a godsend for them. According to their own internal e-mails, the movie is a painfully unfunny turd. Now it's this exciting forbidden movie that North Korea doesn't want you to see. Rest assured, they will find a way to turn this into money. I think pulling the release has more to do with stoking publicity than actual fear of the North Korea Engrish Hacker Brigade.
Get Amazon to stream it. Their servers can handle it.
just set up a a torrent and distribute it online.
sony won't give away a movie for free. especially since it took time and money to make. doing that would be a fucking stupid choice for the company.
Well they are not making any money today at all anyways since no movie theater wants to show it. Plus no streaming websites wants to do it either. If I made a movie and it cant make money, I atleast want people to see it.
Get Amazon to stream it. Their servers can handle it.
They, along with Netflix and every other major streaming service, don't WANT to risk their staff or servers coming under attack.
This whole thing just seems like a massive publicity stunt for what would otherwise be a mediocre movie.
put it on the humble bundle store and donate a percentage to organizations that help the families of PoWs in North korea
Sony owns their own service. What the hell Sony.
Looks like this movie is the next best thing since sliced bread!!!~~
Let Google have it so we can dedicate a day to the front page of Google that allows you to watch The Intetview for free on that day. Call it something like the day of humorous peace.

On a totally unrelated note, I am going to go watch Team America...
